Writing WA held its Annual General Meeting on 19 August 2026, welcoming six members to the Board: four newly elected members and two re-elected members.

Newly elected: Mikaela Castledine, Shoma Mittra, Kate Pickard and Clare Reid.
Re-elected: Rachel Bin Salleh and Alison Davis.

Together, the Board brings expertise across writing, publishing, communications, governance and the not-for-profit sector, strengthening Writing WA’s capacity to advocate for and support Western Australia’s writing community.

We’ll be introducing each Board member and sharing more about their work and experience over the coming weeks.

First, we are pleased to welcome Clare Reid to the Writing WA Board of Management.

Clare Reid is the founder of communications agency Longform Creative and Editor of Literature and Creative Industries for The Metamorphosis Project Journal. Before launching Longform in 2026, Clare was the CEO of Lush, The Content Agency, a branding, communications and film studio. During this time, Clare spent two years as Lead Copywriting Representative of Perth Advertising and Design Club (PADC) where she led the sector of commercial writers in WA.

We’re excited to announce our first Love to Read Local event for 2026!

Join the Children's Book Council of Australia WA Branch in Peppermint Grove for an afternoon celebrating the CBCA 2026 Book of the Year Shortlist, featuring WA Book of the Year judges Annika Kononen and Sophie Helfgott, alongside shortlisted WA authors Sally Barton, Sean E Avery and Renée Treml.

Enjoy afternoon tea, a book sale, and a panel discussion to celebrate WA's writers for children and discover more about this year’s shortlisted books.

📚 Applications are now open for Love to Read Local.

Writing WA is inviting public libraries, writing centres, community organisations, venues and individuals across Western Australia to submit ideas for literary events that celebrate our local writers and stories.

Supported by the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund, Love to Read Local funds events that connect Western Australian writers and literary professionals with readers across metropolitan, regional and remote communities. From author talks and panel discussions to workshops and community events, the program helps bring local stories to readers while supporting author sustainability through professional fees and book sales.

If you have an idea for an event celebrating Western Australian writing, we'd love to hear from you. Eligible applications will be assessed against the program criteria, including:
Celebrating and sustaining local writers
Developing new audiences and readers
Diversity of writers and genres
Collaboration and networks across the writing sector

WA Stories invited writers' centres and publisher members of Writing WA to nominate selected work for presentation on the Digital Tower at Yagan Square. The campaign aims to share distinctive WA stories on the highly visible Yagan Square Digital Tower, showcasing the depth, diversity and creativity of our state’s literary sector.

The program provides a rare platform to champion WA writers in a prominent, shared cultural setting. The showcase features the writing of Katharine Susannah Prichard, Georgia Tingley, Suzanne Ingelbrecht, Maria Blackman, Marshall Wilan, Susan Cullen, KT Downs, Lorraine Chapman, Josephine Clarke, Shey Marque, Heather Salter- Purves and Julie Duxbury.

Keep an eye out for these works at Yagan Square, and don't forget to tag us if you see one!
