Make it Real x Peggy Griffiths, Waringarri Aboriginal Arts

From canvas to product, Peggy Griffiths’ artworks have been carefully reimagined through AACHWA’s Make it Real project, bringing her elegant imagery into everyday life and creating new ways to connect with her work beyond the gallery wall.

A highly respected Miriwoong artist and renowned dancer, Peggy’s practice reflects a strong commitment to her culture. Her works document the traditional Country of her mother and grandfather and are rich with references to cultural performance, with winding waterways and intricate dot work reflecting movement, ceremony and body painting traditions.

Make It Real is a dedicated AACHWA project created in response to the widespread exploitation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in Australia’s souvenir market, addressing cultural harm and lost economic opportunity. As part of this initial pilot, AACHWA's Make It Real is proud to collaborate with 6 art centres and 24 talented artists, leading to the creation of 96 unique products and supporting artists through product development training.

Building a brand identity with grounded in community, culture and story.

Last month, AACHWA’s Rachael Karotkin and brand specialist travelled to Bidyadanga Community to deliver a brand and logo discovery workshop as part of the Our Mob Online project.

Across two days, more than 15 artists, art centre staff and community representatives took part in activities exploring the art centre’s history, values, brand position and visual identity.

The workshop created an opportunity for community input into the future brand strategy, with the insights, drawings and knowledge shared forming the foundation for the new logo and visual identity.

It has been an exciting collaborative process and we can’t wait to share the outcome of the project soon.

Last month we celebrated WA Aboriginal art with an incredible opening weekend for Revealed 2026.

Across the weekend, thousands of visitors experienced the vibrant art market and exhibition, with record-breaking artwork sales directly supporting Aboriginal artists and art centres from across Western Australia.

While the art market featured work by more than 600 artists, the exhibition brings together over 180 artworks by 101 new and emerging artists, including 15 independent artists alongside artists represented by 27 regional and remote Aboriginal art centres.

Thank you to everyone who has come along to browse, listen, yarn, and purchase an Aboriginal artwork already. There’s still time to experience the exhibition at PICA, and perhaps even purchase an artwork, before it closes on 14 June.
