Today we celebrate TWO YEARS since the launch of our Minga Gudjaga Midwifery Practice (MGMP) 🙌🏾 We are proud to have become the first Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) to employ midwives with visiting rights at a public maternity hospital.
This groundbreaking initiative means that women in our community have the incredible benefit of being cared for by their known and trusted Waminda midwife during labour and birth at the Shoalhaven Hospital 🤱🏽
Over the past two years, Waminda’s Birthing on Country team has supported 134 babies on their journey from the (miriral) spirit world to the physical world and beyond. The outcomes speak for themselves, showcasing just how impactful this model has been on the lives of women and their babies:
✨ 71% experienced spontaneous onset of labour.
✨ 65% vaginal births, 14% elective caesareans, 15% unplanned caesareans & 6% instrumental delivery.
✨ 95% of births were full-term.
✨ 96% of babies were born a healthy birth weight.
✨ 84% of mothers were breastfeeding at birth.
What makes this initiative truly special is its dynamic nature, adapting continually based on community feedback. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the women who have chosen to trust Waminda with their pregnancies and motherhood journeys. It is a true honour to be part of such a profound experience, and we wish you and your families continuing spiritual and physical wellness in the years to come 👶🏾👶🏽👶🏻
