And sometimes we’re handed challenges that are more than we can handle. CareSouth supports and cares for people who are doing it tough. Whether it’s children having a hard time at home, people living with a disability, or families struggling to get by – we’re here to help, every day.

Youth homelessness isn’t always visible, but it’s a reality for many. Across Australia, 1 in 6 young people have faced homelessness, often couch surfing or moving between unstable living situations.

CareSouth's Shoalhaven Youth Support Service (SYSS) is dedicated to changing that by providing emergency accommodation, outreach support and case management to help young people find their feet. Our trauma-informed staff work with young people to build resilience and independence by helping them with:

🎓 Education and job connections

💚 Health and wellbeing support

🤝 Community connections

🏡 Support to find safe and stable accommodation

On Youth Homelessness Matters Day, we’re reminded of the importance of early support in helping young people regain stability and build a positive future. SYSS is passionate about empowering young people with the tools they need to build a better future.

This year's CareSouth Southern Family Fun Day at Jamberoo Action Park was an absolute blast! Families, children, and young people from our Foster Care and Aunties & Uncles mentoring programs joined us for a day filled with excitement and connection.

It was heartwarming to witness so many new friendships form as families, carers and mentors spent quality time together. 🤗

Events like this not only strengthen our community but also promote physical activity, encourage outdoor adventures, and enhance mental health and wellbeing. We can’t wait for the next one!

International Women’s Day was yesterday the 8th of March and we’re celebrating the remarkable women in our CareSouth community, including colleagues, carers, families, volunteers, participants, and young people, whose compassion and leadership continually inspire us. 👩‍🎓👩‍💼👩‍🔬

We stand by this year’s theme, which recognises that when we give, we gain. At CareSouth, we’re grateful to see this come to life every day. Whether it’s the support we offer families, young people and participants, or the way our teams show up for each other, generosity is what drives meaningful change.

🐶 Meet Iris, the paws-itively perfect companion at CareSouth! 🐶

Iris is one of our CareDogs who brings joy and comfort wherever she goes. Her heartwarming bond with Ben* in Nowra is truly special.

Whenever Ben feels down, he knows he can count on his favourite furry friend. Whether they’re sharing quiet moments, heading out for walks with a support worker, or even diving into cooking lessons, Iris always lifts his spirits. Her enthusiastic support makes a real difference, bringing a smile to his face even on the toughest days.

Iris is not just a source of joy, she is trained to offer therapeutic care and provides invaluable support to many children and young people across our programs. We’re proud of the positive impact Iris has in our community. 🐾💖

Celebrating creativity and connection with our recent NDIS Art with Heart program, and what a memorable event it was! Our showcase, in collaboration with Bundanon, proudly featured the amazing artwork of our talented NDIS participants. 🎨✨

This program enriches lives by providing a vibrant space for participants to unleash their creativity, develop new skills, and create lasting friendships. Witnessing their joy and hearing their heartfelt stories was incredibly moving. The smiles were truly contagious! ❤️

Meet the CareSouth team who provide ongoing support to keep everything running smoothly while the world sleeps. Our After Hours Service (AHS) team! ⏰🌙

Available from 5pm to 9am, our AHS team brings extensive experience from across CareSouth to provide unwavering support and assistance to both colleagues and clients right across our footprint.

Whether it’s processing reports, tackling rostering challenges, offering support to staff, carers, and clients, caring for our Shoalhaven Youth Support Service (SYSS) young people, or handling community enquiries, they approach every task with dedication and expertise.

We couldn't be prouder of the essential role they play in supporting CareSouth’s mission to build a better future for those we support, around the clock! 🕒

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Penny Hood as CareSouth’s next Chief Executive Officer. ⭐

With nearly 30 years of distinguished experience in the child, youth and family sector, Penny brings exceptional leadership, expertise and a strong dedication to improving outcomes for children, families and communities to our organisation. She is the ideal leader to guide CareSouth into its next chapter and strengthen the experiences of the children, young people, families, and people with disability we support.

Penny’s career spans both government and non-government roles, giving her a rare blend of frontline insight and strong organisational governance. This includes significant work with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice, where she honed her expertise in statutory child protection, Out-of-Home Care, and family support services.

Above all, Penny is a passionate advocate for the safety, wellbeing and empowerment of others.

Penny joins us from 16 March 2026. We look forward to introducing you to Penny and the next chapter of our organisation’s journey.

This past Christmas, CareSouth’s Giving Tree made over 600 wishes come true, thanks to the generosity of local organisations and individuals. For the fifth-year running, we proudly provided hand-picked gifts for every child, teen and person with disability CareSouth supports. 🎁 🎄✨

With over $30,000 in donations, this heartwarming achievement highlights our community’s dedication to making a difference. Daniel, our Program Manager, said it best: “CareSouth's Giving Tree shows our kids that they are seen and cared for.”

A massive thank you to all our donors, including All Saints Anglican Church, Berry Community Pre-School, BYD Nowra, The Country Club - St Georges Basin, The Bay and Basin Community Support Group, Bendigo Bank, Cyclo Group, Notts Smash Repair, Paying It Forward, Ray White Goulburn, Shell’s Mobile Café, Sikorsky, and Vincentia High School. 🙌

CareSouth’s monthly Meet & Eat community program is always full of joy and connection, but last December was extra special thanks to the amazing efforts of young people in our Supported Independent Living program. They gathered donations and transformed the Community Hub into a magical festive wonderland! 🎄✨

Our team leader, Sally, shared, “The young people felt a sense of pride being part of this experience, showing appreciation for the program that has been providing them meals each month.”

Together, we served 71 traditional Christmas dinners, leaving everyone with full hearts and bellies! ❤️🥰

CareSouth recently hosted an incredible Cultural Day at the Yarkuwa Indigenous Knowledge Centre for kids in foster care in Deniliquin.

From decorating clap sticks and crafting jewellery to graffiti art, "Lingo Bingo" in Wamba Wamba language, and VR headsets that transported kids into the world of Yarkuwa Bunyip sculptures, the day was full of fun and connection. 🖤💛❤️

This is just one of the ways we support children and young people in foster care to build a better future ✨
