Supporting loving, compassionate and meaningful end-of-life care for patients and their families.

Quite simply, our story is made possible because people choose to support the Foundation showing they share our belief that caring for people at the end of their lives is an honour and a privilege. However, if you’re interested, here is a little bit of our history and why we exist. The Mary Potter Foundation, a South Australian charity, has been around since 1987 when it was recognised that the Mary Potter Hospice could not survive without support from the community. A group of dedicated people closely associated with the Hospice formed an auxiliary that became an incorporated association in 1988. Since then, thanks to the support of generous and caring South Australians the Mary Potter Hospice has remained as one of the most important and highly regarded providers of in-patient palliative and end of life care. Hundreds of patients and their families every year are so grateful for the compassion, the dignity and the love that the Hospice team brings into their lives. The Mary Potter Foundation has been privileged to play a part through community support to ensure that care is there every day it is needed, and that the facilities along with staff skills and knowledge are continually improved to provide the best possible environment and standard of care for everyone.

It might just be one of our favourite days of the year... National Chocolate Day! 🍫💗

To mark the occasion, patients and families enjoyed a delicious selection of chocolate donuts and cupcakes, along with chocolate milk generously supplied by Fleurieu Milk Company.

And chocolate wasn’t just on the menu - Hospice volunteer Gess used her creative skills to add a little choccie ‘flavour’ to an apron and a hat! 👏

There’s something special about gathering around a table. It’s where conversations unfold, laughter is shared, stories are told and memories are made. 💗

That spirit of connection was at the heart of our inaugural Long Lunch, A Place at Our Table, and it’s why we are so grateful to Thomas Foods International, a Gold Sponsor of the event.

Food plays an important role for patients and families too. At The Mary Potter Foundation, our mission is to nurture meaningful care. 💗

But what does meaningful care really look like?

Sometimes, it’s something very simple. Fresh flowers. Something to eat from the Family Kitchen. A cup of freshly brewed coffee. Favourite music. A special meal. Being together.

Other times, it’s an experience that creates a moment of joy, connection or a welcome distraction. Meaningful care is personal, shaped by what is important to each patient and family.

Our inaugural Long Lunch, A Place at Our Table, brought our community together and we were so grateful to have Calvary Health Care alongside us as our Presenting Partner.

But our connection goes well beyond a single event. Through our ongoing partnership, we share a commitment to supporting patients and families, helping create moments of comfort, connection and care through some of life’s most significant moments. We are proud to work alongside Calvary throughout the year, supporting the work of Mary Potter Hospice, Calvary Palliative Home Care, Cancer Care and Residential Aged Care across South Australia.

Our inaugural Long Lunch brought together a wonderful community for an afternoon of connection, generosity and care. 💖

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful setting than Hotel Panorama . From the amazing hospitality and food to the atmosphere and spectacular city-to-coast views, it was the perfect place to gather. Delicious wines from our beverage partner Wicks Estate Wines were the perfect accompaniment.

Funds raised through The Long Lunch will help support the redevelopment of the Mary Potter Hospice family garden, along with programs and services that bring comfort, connection and meaningful moments to patients and their families.

We are incredibly grateful to our Presenting Partner, Calvary North Adelaide Hospital, for standing alongside us and helping make The Long Lunch possible.

Our Media Partner FIVEAA made the occasion even more memorable, with Stacey Lee bringing such warmth as our MC, while Graham Cornes took to the stage for an insightful live version of Conversations with Cornesy.

Our generous Major Partners, Peter Kittle Motor Company, Care 24-7 The Emergency Specialist, Thomas Foods International, Coopers, Big Screen Video, Sip 'N Save and On The Table Events, each played an important role in bringing the day together.

Year 11 students from St Dominic's Priory College Adelaide have put their learning into action in a wonderful way, making essential oil rollers as part of special spring gifts for patients receiving palliative care at home.🌸

The rollers have been included in gift packets alongside wildflower seeds to plant, with each packet decorated with dried flowers.

We are so grateful to the students for the time and thought they put into creating these beautifully scented little treats. It’s a lovely example of how our community comes together, each contributing in their own way to make meaningful care possible. 💕

Creating deeply personal artwork during a very tender time. 🎨✨

Offered to patients receiving palliative and end-of-life care at Calvary, the wonderful Fra Angelico Creative Arts program helps patients create meaningful keepsakes.

Led by skilled and compassionate art program practitioners and pastoral carers, these sessions offer expert guidance and a gentle space for self-expression. Often shared as a beautiful family experience, family members can add their fingerprints to be transformed into symbolic pieces like a gorgeous family tree, birds or leaves. Each piece is uniquely crafted and completed with personalised messages, bringing a deep sense of togetherness, connection, and comfort when it matters most.

The focus of this arts program is entirely on connection, legacy, and honouring each person’s life through creative expression, resulting in cherished keepsakes families can hold onto forever. ❤️

A small act of kindness goes a long way. 💓

Thanks to our wonderful donors, patients receiving palliative home care are given a special Welcome Pack. Each thoughtful gift box carries the name of the generous person who made it possible, letting patients know exactly whose kindness touched their day.

Recently, a patient sent this beautiful note back to their donor:
"A very big thank you for the welcome surprise gift box I was given. It sure brightened my day and outlook."

This is what meaningful care is all about. A simple gesture reminds patients and their families that they are thought of, valued, and supported when it matters most. 💖

Brett and friends from Animals Anonymous came by the Hospice this week to share huge smiles, gentle cuddles, and a whole lot of joy with patients, families and staff! 🐍😍

It was amazing to see so many brave hands reach out to pat and hold our scaly and furry visitors, Gem the Diamond Python and Queenie the Quokka.

We feel there is a unique kind of magic in the power of animals and see it time and again when therapy dogs, miniature ponies and native wildlife visits. Whether it's the gentle warmth of a friendly mammal or the cool, fascinating calm of a reptile, these special interactions bring comfort, welcome distraction, and moments of pure happiness when they are needed most.❤️
