The Mary Potter Foundation Inc Supporting loving, dignified and meaningful end-of-life care for patients and their families.

Quite simply, our story is made possible because people choose to support the Foundation showing they share our belief that caring for people at the end of their lives is an honour and a privilege. However, if you’re interested, here is a little bit of our history and why we exist. The Mary Potter Foundation, a South Australian charity, has been around since 1987 when it was recognised that the Ma

ry Potter Hospice could not survive without support from the community. A group of dedicated people closely associated with the Hospice formed an auxiliary that became an incorporated association in 1988. Since then, thanks to the support of generous and caring South Australians the Mary Potter Hospice has remained as one of the most important and highly regarded providers of in-patient palliative and end of life care. Hundreds of patients and their families every year are so grateful for the compassion, the dignity and the love that the Hospice team brings into their lives. The Mary Potter Foundation has been privileged to play a part through community support to ensure that care is there every day it is needed, and that the facilities along with staff skills and knowledge are continually improved to provide the best possible environment and standard of care for everyone.

On Sunday 31 May, more than 1,700 people came together for Walk for Love 2026 💕

Families, friends, colleagues, community groups, children, dogs and individuals all walked side by side, each carrying someone special in their hearts. Together, they created our biggest Walk for Love yet - a beautiful reminder that love, remembrance and connection continue long after loss.

The day began in our Walk for Love Village at Carclew, where walkers gathered over coffee from Cirelli Coffee, homemade treats from Barton's Bakehouse and a Better Together Brekkie Burger, proudly supported by RAA. Thanks to Ceravolo, everyone was also treated to fresh apples before setting off.

Boarders from St Peter's College joined us bright and early for our Walk for Me initiative, walking on behalf of loved ones whose family and friends were unable to attend. Their kindness ensured that even those who couldn't be there in person still had someone walking in their honour.

Children enjoyed face painting and took part in the Garden of Gratitude activity along the way, made possible by Genworth Group. Many walkers also paused at Mary Potter Hospice to leave heartfelt messages for those they were walking in honour of.

One of the most moving moments of the day was Loved One's Lane in Wellington Square. Supported by Calvary North Adelaide and brought to life with the help of volunteers from St Dominic's Priory College, thousands of pink hearts lined the pathway as walkers collected personalised gifts bearing their loved one's name.

As walkers crossed the finish line and gathered once more with family and friends, they were welcomed into our Gratitude Tent and received their 2026 Walk for Love Commemorative Pin, generously supported by Harrold & Kite.

To every person who walked, volunteered, fundraised, sponsored, donated or supported this special day - thank you for helping create a space where memories are celebrated, stories are shared and loved ones are remembered together.

Here are some of our favourite moments from Walk for Love 2026. 💗

Sunday was something truly special 🩷✨

More than 1,700 incredible people joined us on the streets of North Adelaide for Walk for Love, and we're still feeling the love.

To every person who walked, volunteered, baked, poured coffee, helped set up, packed up, or simply showed up – thank you. Whether you walked in memory of someone special, in support of a loved one, or simply to stand alongside our community, your presence made this day what it was.

We're so grateful to our wonderful major partners, Calvary North Adelaide Hospital and Genworth Group, for helping bring this event to life.

There are many more thank-yous to come, along with the full gallery from our photographer, but for now, we simply want to say thank you.

Thank you for walking with us. 💖

We are tremendously thankful to the team at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital, whose continued support makes our Walk for Love Loved One’s Lane in Wellington Square possible this year. This remains a deeply meaningful space along the Walk route, allowing our community to pause, reflect, and honour those we hold dear. ✨

Beyond this wonderful event, we are very proud to partner with them every single day in supporting patients and their families.

Lisa Denton, Director of Clinical Services, Calvary North Adelaide Hospital, says "Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those receiving care. Calvary North Adelaide Hospital is proud to stand alongside The Mary Potter Foundation in providing compassionate support and comfort to our community."

Thank you to the Calvary North Adelaide team for supporting our event, and for helping us create such a comforting, warm space.🩷

Meet Walk for Love Ambassador, Andrea. 💖

Andrea’s much-loved dad, Tony, was only in Mary Potter Hospice for two days. Two days that were filled with family, love and gratitude. Two days which had a lasting impact on Andrea and her whole family.

Andrea remembers, “On Dad’s last day, the Foundation did something which meant everything to our family. They arranged a family dinner for Dad, Mum, his children and grandchildren - just the same as it would have been if we were eating together at his house. Dinner tables were all beautifully set up for 18 of us to enjoy our last "Dinner at Nonna and Nonno's". We had our family’s famous pasta together – and it was such a special moment for us.

Hosting family dinners meant everything to Dad, and it was so comforting to be able to allow him to host us one more time. It was only a few hours later that he slipped away from us."

We are so grateful to have Andrea as an ambassador for our annual Walk for Love this Sunday, May 31. Andrea and her family do the Walk to honour their Dad, but also to say 'thank you' and pay it forward, so that other families can experience the same level of care that they did.

A big thank you to Harrold & Kite, who in their second year of support for Walk for Love, are helping to provide our commemorative Walk for Love pins. ✨

Gifted to each participant at the end of their walk, this special lapel pin has been thoughtfully designed and created as a beautiful memento and symbol of remembrance and gratitude that our walkers can wear and cherish for years to come.

Thank you, Harrold and Kite, for providing our community with such a meaningful piece of this day to take home with them.

We are so looking forward to sharing this special morning with you all next Sunday! 💓

When a patient is admitted to Mary Potter Hospice, they’re welcomed with a bright pot of fresh flowers and a handwritten note from the Foundation and our generous donors 💐

This small gesture began a few years ago after some of the Hospice staff noticed that patients in were receiving fewer flowers than they once had. Wanting every patient and family to feel the comfort and joy that flowers can bring, we introduced this tradition - one that has since become an unexpected and treasured surprise for many.

It’s often one of the very first things families comment on when they arrive, and a simple reminder that they are warmly welcomed and cared for. 🩷

Our hearts are full of gratitude as we welcome back Genworth Group for their second year of wonderful support for Walk for Love! 💓

They are bringing so much joy to our community, particularly to our littlest walkers. Because of their generous support, children can enjoy activities all along the route, plus a fantastic face painter in the Walk for Love Village.

Thank you to Genworth Group for helping us wrap our families in warmth, smiles, and the creation of memories every step of the way.

We are so excited to share this beautiful morning with you all on Sunday 31 May! ✨

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who make so much of what we do possible 💕

Behind every special event, folded handmade quilt, carefully packed envelope and thoughtful act of kindness, there is a volunteer giving their time to support our community.

Some volunteer at our events, some help in the office, some quietly work behind the scenes fixing, building or maintaining things, and others create beautiful handmade items that bring comfort to patients and loved ones. Every role matters, and every contribution helps create the care, warmth and support that we are known for.

Our volunteers are not just helping hands - they are part of the heart of our Mary Potter community.

To each and every volunteer, thank you for the time, compassion, skills and care you so generously share. We are so grateful for all that you do ✨
