Sammy knew exactly what he wanted to be. He dreamed of becoming a police officer working in the dog operations unit, side by side with a police dog.

He loved helping people, and he wanted to make a difference. For Sammy, it wasn’t just a job, it was a way to protect others and do something good in the world.

Sammy had a future full of purpose. But a rare brain cancer called DIPG took that away.

He never got the chance to grow up.

A milestone year for the Matthew Scriver PICU Scholarship 💙

Honouring what would have been Matthew’s 21st birthday, this year also marks the expansion of the scholarship to include allied health professionals.

Congratulations to our 2026 recipients, Georgia Campagnale (L) and Melissa Thompson (R).

Georgia’s project will help strengthen nutrition care for critically ill children in PICU, while Melissa’s work aims to create more compassionate end of life care options, supporting families to spend precious time together in the places that mean the most to them.

Together, their projects embody the scholarship’s vision of holistic, family-centred care and ensure Matthew’s legacy continues to make a meaningful difference for children and families when they need it most.

This week, WCH Foundation Ambassador Elspeth Hussey visited the Hospital School at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital to ask students one important question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” 💛

From working with animals, to creating banners for the Adelaide Crows and becoming a physiotherapist, their answers were filled with passion, hope and big plans for the future 🐾🏉

It’s also a powerful reminder that every child deserves the chance to dream big.

During National Reconciliation Week, we’re proud to highlight this vibrant new artwork in Rose Ward, helping to create a more welcoming and culturally safe space for Aboriginal children and families.

Created by Tanaya, Narungga, born and raised on Kaurna land, the artwork places nurses and health workers at its centre, representing the heart of the ward. They are surrounded by interconnected camps representing each patient and family, symbolising a shared journey of care, compassion and belonging.

“The artwork encourages all who enter this ward, during difficult times in their lives or their child’s to feel uplifted by the brightness, and to feel welcomed, seen, and part of something greater,” Tanaya shares.

Brought to life through collaboration between staff, consumers and the Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Division, this work is a powerful reminder that healing is shaped by culture, community and connection.

Tanaya was proudly supported by the WCH Foundation Arts in Health team in partnership with Ochre Dawn.

There was plenty of excitement in the Primary Classroom at Hospital School today as Book Buddies Maggie, Cathie and Shauna joined students for a special National Simultaneous Storytime session📚

Together, they shared Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller before leading fun activities inspired by the story creating a warm, engaging experience filled with moments to listen, imagine and join in 🦘

The Book Buddies program is a heartwarming partnership between the WCH Foundation and Hospital School SA, bringing qualified readers to hospital wards to inspire a love of reading, support literacy and provide a positive distraction for young patients.

Thank you to the incredible Book Buddies 💛

Jess had so many dreams about who she might become. From swimming for Australia to even becoming a “Space Girl,” in her world anything felt possible.

When her family welcomed their dog, Daisy, Jess fell completely in love and a new dream took shape. She wanted to become a vet, dedicating her life to caring for animals just like Daisy.

Jess had a future full of possibility. But a rare brain cancer called DIPG took that away.

She never got the chance to grow up.

In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, the Music for Wellness program is providing gentle, meaningful care to some of the hospital’s most vulnerable patients. Through live harp performances by certified healthcare musician Ilona, premature babies are experiencing calmer environments that can help stabilise heart rates, improve sleep, and support feeding and growth.

Supported by the WCH Foundation, this program is designed to complement clinical care, creating a more soothing and supportive experience for babies, their families, and the staff who care for them.

This is the difference your support makes, improving environments for our smallest patients and supporting better outcomes for families 🎶💛

Spencer was a cheeky, music-loving five-year-old who adored his big sister and making people laugh. Just months after his diagnosis with DIPG, Spencer’s life was cut heartbreakingly short.

“Spencer should still be here… bouncing on his trampoline, playing soccer, building Lego with his big sister,” shares Spencer's mum, Laura.

DIPG is an aggressive childhood brain cancer. It progresses fast and has no cure. But, we're fighting to change that.

Your support will help fund research that gives children more time and families more hope.
