Operate an Espresso machine. Prepare Espresso based drinks. Available on Saturdays (morning or afternoon) and Mondays (morning), the Barista Class can lead to a volunteer placement, where you could practice your skills, build your confidence and earn a work reference. The cost of the course is $150. Everyone is welcome to our workshops. However, volunteer placement is reserved for those under 30. How does it work? In both workshops, there is a bit of theory, and a lot of practice. A highly experienced barista will take you, step by step, through the whole course. After that, depending on your performance, you can be invited to volunteer in a fully functioning coffee shop. This placement will allow you to practice, and master, what you learned and gain real work experience. Moreover, upon successful completion of your volunteering period, you will get a reference letter from a local source. What do you gain by volunteering?
1. Practice. You will get to do all the things you learnt in the workshop. Repetition will keep your new skills fresh and improve your techniques.
2. Confidence. You will be working in a safe environment, where mistakes are expected and used as a learning opportunity. The Experience coffee shop staff will help you grow into your role.
3. A local work reference. You will show us that you're a committed and hardworking person, and we will put that in paper. Employers will be able to verify, with us, what a great worker you are.
4. Colleagues. In a market as small as Adelaide, your fellow volunteers will be your future coworkers. Down the road, you will be able to open doors for each other.
5. Friends. The welcoming and relaxed environment of the Experience coffee shop is the perfect setting to make friends. As a non-profit, we care about your wellbeing and strive to create an environment that nurtures human connections. How much? The All Rounder goes for $250. The Barista Class goes for $150. Why is it so affordable? Because we are a non for profit initiative. The Cafe All Rounder Workshop aims to break the "no experience = no job" cycle that traps people trying to get their first job. We exist to help you break the cycle. Where? On The Experience coffee shop, 61 Galway Ave, Broadview SA 5083. When is the next workshop? The All Rounder goes on Mondays. The Barista Class is available on Saturdays (morning or afternoon) and Mondays (morning). How to pay? To secure your spot, payment must be made to the following account:

Will you get a certificate? Yes, you will. But in Adelaide, when the chips are down, a certificate is just a nice piece of paper. You see, Adelaide's hospitality is a rather informal industry. Jobs go to those that shine in trial shifts and have local work experience and references, not to those with the nicest certificates. We are well aware of this reality. That's why the longest component of our courses is the volunteer placement. Will you be prepared for interviews / trials? Through the volunteer placement you could develop the skills and confidence needed to successfully complete interviews and trial shifts. With us you could learn, and practice, to interact with customers, take orders, carry 3 plates, clear tables, make coffee, etc. Upon completion of the course and placement, you'll be able to show any potential employer that you are ready to work.
