Children are often the forgotten victims of domestic and family violence. Sign the petition by Newcastle mother and domestic violence advocate, Tabatha Acret, to have children recognised as victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

CW: This post discusses domestic violence and murder.

In 2022, Mackenzie Anderson was murdered by her ex-partner. Her 23-month-old son was there.

"There was ZERO crime for what he saw or the trauma he experienced," says her mum, Tabitha Acret.

Last year, more than 110,000 people signed Tabitha's first petition, and it won: NSW changed its sentencing laws for intimate partner murder. But the law still treats children like her grandson as witnesses, not victims.

Now Tabitha is asking governments across Australia to recognise children who live through domestic violence as victims in their own right, with tougher sentences when a child is present and access to support, counselling and protection.

"Children cannot vote, lobby or speak up for themselves. They need us to do it for them," she writes.

If you think these children deserve to be recognised, you can read more and support Tabitha's petition here: https://vist.ly/5n5js

Working together is the superpower of charities and community organisations like Nova and Mums' Cottage.

Since opening our new one-stop shop, Nova Women's Hub at Broadmeadow, we have an increased need for non-perishable food items to fill the pantries and free community shop for the women and children who come to us for support.

We are so thankful that Mum's Cottage answered our call for help by donating a carload of treats, food and necessities for our clients.

Sister Helen shared that the food had been donated to Mum's Cottage by the Singleton Army Cadets, and they were happy to pay the donation forward to Nova. 🫶🫶
