Islington Park & Throsby Creek Mangroves Clean-Up

Sun 24 May | 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM
Register here: https://register.cleanup.org.au/register/clean-up-before-park-meet-with-climate-ready-newcastle

Join The Full Circle Collective and Climate Ready Newcastle for a community clean-up of Islington Park and Throsby Creek mangroves! We'll be collecting litter around the Park and waterway areas while testing Clean Up Australia's new litter counting tool!

What to expect:
- Litter collection in Islington Park and surrounding mangrove areas along Throsby Creek
- Pilot testing Clean Up Cam - a new web-app that uses your phone camera to identify and count litter types
- We will supply bags, gloves, and show you how to use Clean Up Cam

How you can participate:
We encourage participants to work in pairs - one person collecting litter, the other captures the (pretty and not-so-pretty) photos. So, if you prefer to stay hands-off, you're just as valuable helping with data collection and photography! Simply register and come along - we'll organise you into teams on the go. Or bring a friend and form the perfect pair together!

After the clean-up:
Stay for Climate Ready Newcastle's monthly Park Meet! Connect with neighbours, share skills, and discuss local climate adaptation and community resilience. More info: climatereadynewcastle.org.au/park_meet_may

What to bring:
- Your smartphone (for Clean Up Cam)
- Closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing
- Water bottle
- If you're staying for a Park Meet, feel free to bring something to sit on and a bite to share

We look forward to seeing you there!

We’re doing things a little differently at our Rolling Clothes Swap on Saturday 23rd May at Wallsend Rotunda!

We are still asking you to bring along up to 10 freshly laundered, gently used clothing items, shoes, or accessories that you no longer wear but that are still in great condition and swap them for something new‑to‑you.

But, instead of waiting for a set swapping time, you can start swapping as soon as you check in. As people arrive, items are continuously added to the racks, and swapping happens throughout the event. Come early or come late - there’ll be treasures appearing all session long!

Overview of the Day

🕥 10:00am - 1:00pm: Rolling Check‑in & Swapping
🙋🏻‍♀️ Meet our volunteers at the check‑in counter
🛍️ Exchange up to 10 items for the same number of tokens
🤩 Once you’ve checked in, you’re free to start swapping straight away!

How swapping works
- All items will be sorted by type and displayed on racks as they arrive
- New pieces are added throughout the session, so it’s worth having a browse more than once
- Change rooms and mirrors will be available on the day
- When you’ve chosen your items, head to the check‑out counter to exchange your tokens for your new clothes

While you’re there…
Take a break between browsing to:
- Explore the nearby Wallsend Op Shop Trail
- Have a garment repaired or your bike serviced at our Repair Café at Wallsend Library

A few friendly reminders
- Please only bring items that are clean, gently worn, and in good condition
- You can swap up to the number of items you check in
- Leftover items at the end of the day will be donated responsibly

Ticket price is $10, or for those who need it there is a no questions asked free option. We just want to see you there!

Please reach out to the team if you would like to be a volunteer on the day! You will still be able to participate in the swapping activities and we would like to give you a free ticket for your help!
