RSL Tasmania held its 111th Annual General Meeting and State Congress at Country Club Tasmania over the weekend, attended by delegates from 37 out of 43 RSL Sub-Branches from around Tasmania - with a special mention to King Island RSL Sub Branch for joining us online for the two days.

This annual event is a great opportunity for Members to meet and learn from each other, hear from a range of speakers, obtain information from State Branch and RSL Australia, make valuable contacts, and have their say on issues that affect them.

Highlights of the two days included:
• An address by RSL Australia National President Peter Tinley AM
• State Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, the Hon Gavin Pearce, who highlighted how good news stories and opportunities are often overlooked in conversations about Veterans
• Assistant Minister for Defence, the Hon Peter Khalil MP, who discussed Australia’s Defence priorities and Defence Estate divestments
• The annual State Congress Dinner, a social occasion not-to-be-missed. With music by our talented Regional Director North West Graeme Best, it was a complete sell out and a great time was had by all.
• Enthusiastic participation in interactive feedback sessions and discussions
• Informal opportunities to catch up with friends old and new in the RSL community around Tasmania.

Thank you to everyone who joined us over the weekend. The work you do in your respective Sub-Branches is critical to the future of RSL Tasmania and we are grateful for your dedication to the Veteran community throughout Tasmania.

More highlights and photos to come.

LAUNCESTON VETERANHUB OFFICIALLY OPENED

The Hon Matt Keogh MP, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, officially opened VeteranHub Tasmania in Launceston yesterday, an important milestone in strengthening support for Tasmania’s veteran community and their families.

Delivered by RSL Tasmania, VeteranHub is a free service designed to help veterans and their families more easily navigate the support available to them.

RSL Tasmania CEO John Hardy said the official opening was another significant step in the organisation’s commitment to ensuring veterans and their families can access the right support, in the right place, at the right time.

“VeteranHub is now firmly established as a statewide, integrated service delivery network. To date, we have supported more than 1,350 veterans and their family members,” he said.

“With the opening of the Launceston Hub, RSL Tasmania has delivered one of the most ambitious and comprehensive veteran service programs in Australia.

“This is delivering on our goal to make Tasmania a place where veterans and their families can thrive.”

There are currently around 17,500 veterans living across Tasmania.

Funded by the Australian Government through a $5 million Veteran and Family Hubs grant awarded in 2023, RSL Tasmania has worked closely with local veterans, ex-service organisations and community partners to establish the VeteranHub network across the state.

VeteranHub provides a coordinated, one-stop point of access to a broad range of services, including wellbeing support, compensation advocacy, housing assistance, employment pathways and social connection opportunities.
Importantly, more than 75 per cent of services delivered through VeteranHub have supported non-RSL members, reinforcing RSL Tasmania’s role as an inclusive service provider for all veterans and their families.

The Launceston VeteranHub forms part of a statewide hub-and-spoke model being delivered across Tasmania. The Hobart Hub officially opened in December 2025, with spoke locations now operating in George Town, Huonville, Devonport, Railton and Queenstown.

In addition to services delivered directly through VeteranHub, a range of providers are co-located within the hubs and spokes, with referrals also available to services delivered by other ex-service organisations.

Veterans and their families can connect with VeteranHub, a complimentary service by calling 03 6154 0000 or visiting veteranhub.org.au.

From this year, RSL Tasmania will take responsibility for Vietnam Veterans’ Day commemorations at the Hobart Cenotaph.

The Greater Hobart branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association decided to hand over organisation of the event at its final meeting this month. Its former members will continue to act as advisors and arrange for veterans to participate in commemorative services.

Vietnam Veterans’ Day in Australia is observed on 18 August each year, marking the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan and honouring all Australians who served in the Vietnam War. We remember the sacrifices of those who died and thank the almost 60,000 Australians who served during the 10 years of our involvement.

RSL Tasmania is proud to support commemorative services within our communities, from larger events like ANZAC Day, Vietnam Veterans’ Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies to smaller, local events conducted by local RSL Sub-Branches.

Lest We Forget.

⭐️ THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers around Tasmania ⭐️

It’s National Volunteer Week (19 to 25 May 2026) and we’re celebrating the many ways that volunteers create connected and supportive communities for our veterans and their families.

At RSL Tasmania and VeteranHub, we’re privileged to work with so many outstanding volunteers across the state.

It’s vital work. Every day, volunteers support our veteran services team in local communities, raise funds for veterans’ support services, deliver personal and heartfelt commemorations for those we’ve lost, and maintain the 40+ RSL Sub-Branches around Tasmania.

Through your efforts, camaraderie is strengthened, communities stay connected, and veterans and their families know they are not alone.

Thank you for the countless hours you give supporting veterans and their families across Tasmania. Thank you for the compassion, professionalism, care and dedication you show every single day, often quietly and without recognition.

Happy National Volunteer Week!
