What is the difference between🌹Remembrance Day🌹 and 🌿ANZAC Day? 🌿

Australia has two major commemorative days for those who have served our country: ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day. While they share many similarities, they have a few key differences.

Today is War Widows Day.

War widows make their own sacrifices, often giving up freedoms and putting their own needs aside to support their loved ones throughout their military service.

We recognise and honour the strength, resilience and invaluable contributions of war widows who stand beside our nation's veterans through the challenges and uncertainties of military life, and continue to carry the weight of service long after their loved ones return home.

We acknowledge those who have lost their loved ones through service and recognise the lasting impact of that loss on them, their families and their lives.

Today, we honour their sacrifice, recognise their strength and thank them for all they have given in service to our nation.

Thank you to everyone who attended the RSL Tasmania services in Launceston and Hobart yesterday, marking the 25th anniversary of Australian service in Afghanistan.

These gatherings provided an opportunity to pause, reflect and honour the courage, commitment and sacrifice of all those who served in Afghanistan, while remembering those who never returned home.

Twenty-five years on, we continue to honour their service, acknowledge the sacrifices made by their families, and ensure the stories and experiences of our veterans are never forgotten.

Lest we forget.

It was wonderful to see veterans, families and members of the community come together at yesterday’s services in Launceston and Hobart.

Join us tomorrow as we come together to reflect on the courage, commitment and sacrifice of those who served during Australia’s involvement in Afghanistan.

Twenty-five years on, the commemoration provides an opportunity to remember those who did not return home, acknowledge the sacrifices made by veterans and their families, and recognise the enduring contribution of all those who served.

We honour their service, remember their sacrifice, and will never forget.
