Last Friday, we had the pleasure of running our ‘People and Other Weird Creatures’ collage workshop as part of the Island Readers & Writers Festival. Around 50 students from Austins Ferry Primary School and the Huon Cluster joined us for a day of creativity, chaos and collage, with inspiration from guest artist Leigh Rigozzi… and very special festival guest Shaun Tan!

Shaun was very generous with his time, answering students’ burning questions about his creative process, and chatting with students about their own creations. It was an incredibly energising, inspiring day! Thanks to the the Island Readers and Writers Festival for allowing us to be a partner in your schools program, and for delivering an awesome festival!

On Tuesday, we welcomed our favourite Queenslanders, Sandra Gattenhof and Donna Hancox, for another visit as part of their impact assessment of the Story Island model. We also held our volunteer briefing for our Island Readers and Writers Festival primary school workshops... happening TOMORROW! Exciting times!

An exciting opportunity for young people living in the network of UNESCO Cities of Literature - including Hobart!

EXCITING NEWS! Applications are officially open for the Talking Cities Project! Spearheaded by our Youth Advisory Board, the project will see young creatives (16-25) from around the world paired up as pen pals. Over the coming months, participants will send hand-written letters to each other, and we want YOU to be involved!

As a UNESCO City of Literature, we are connected to 62 other cities. Why not use that network to speak to other young writers? Write, learn, grow, share; this is your opportunity to speak to another young creative. Whether you simply want to learn about life in another creative city or get feedback on your writing, this opportunity is YOURS. We want to bring back the written word and send our scribbles all over the globe!

If this is something you want to be a part of, applications are officially open! Fill out the application form through the link below by the 29th April for a chance to take part. Soon, you may have the opportunity to send your writing across continents!
