Meet Gloria. She is 11 years old, in class five, and her favourite subject is English.

Since joining the Sunbooks programme, she has fallen completely in love with reading and writing. Her dream? To become a teacher one day.

But every day, Gloria sits in a classroom with no electricity - which means the tablet that changed her relationship with reading cannot be charged.

Here is what makes this so close to being solved.
The Kayunga local government has already extended electricity poles right to the school gate. The wire just needs to go inside. That small gap - between the gate and the classroom, is the gap between Gloria and the education she deserves.

Today is the second term of the school year.
Gloria showed up excited and ready to learn

Your support will help bring electricity, books, and learning tools into Gloria’s classroom.

Back in April, we joined young readers, educators, and communities in celebrating the power of books, storytelling, and literacy on World Boom Day. This was a reminder that books do more than teach, they inspire imagination, confidence, creativity, and opportunity.

At World Literacy Foundation, we remain committed to creating spaces where children and young people can discover the joy of reading and the life-changing impact of literacy.

Here’s a look back at some beautiful moments from the day

Every strong reader begins with the basics, and phonics is where that journey starts.

Teachers are equipped with practical, engaging didactic tools that make learning sounds, letters, and word patterns interactive and effective. Through hands-on activities and guided instruction, children learn to recognise sounds, blend letters, and build words with confidence.

These foundational skills are essential, they unlock the ability to read independently and set the stage for all future learning.

In classrooms supported by Sun Books, these small, meaningful moments of discovery happen every day, and they make a lasting difference.

Because when we invest in strong foundations, we empower children for life.

At Sun Books, we believe that inclusive education means creating opportunities for every child, including those with special educational needs, to access learning in a way that works for them.

By supporting teachers with inclusive strategies and providing adaptable learning tools, we help ensure that all students can participate, engage, and build their literacy skills with confidence.

When classrooms embrace diversity, they become stronger, more compassionate spaces where every child feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Because inclusion isn’t an option; it’s essential.

From barely identifying letter sounds… to confidently breaking down the first and last sounds in their names this is growth you can hear.

At Sharing Prosperity School, Kuchingoro IDP Camp, Abuja, our learners are strengthening their phonemic awareness the foundation of reading. Today’s activity may look simple, but it’s powerful.
When a child can isolate the initial and final sounds in their name, they are building essential decoding skills. And decoding is the bridge to fluency, vocabulary development, and ultimately comprehension.

Not long ago, some of these children struggled to identify basic sounds; reading felt out of reach. But through the Sunbooks Digital Literacy Intervention, we are seeing transformation.

They are no longer just repeating sounds; they are understanding them. They are blending. They are segmenting. They are decoding.
And when a child can decode, a whole new world opens.

This is what intentional literacy intervention looks like. This is what impact sounds like.

There’s something truly powerful about hearing a child read out loud.

In that moment, it’s more than just words on a page; it’s confidence growing, language developing, and imagination coming to life. Every sentence spoken helps children strengthen their comprehension, improve their communication skills, and believe in their own abilities.

Through Sun Books, children are given the tools and opportunities to practice reading in supportive, engaging environments. And with every story they read aloud, they’re not just learning, they’re finding their voice.

Because when a child can read with confidence, they can learn anything.

Reading does more than inform, it expands what feels possible. It shapes how people think, question, and engage with the world around them. Yet, for many, access to books and reading opportunities is still uneven, limited not by ability, but by circumstance.

To promote reading, then, is not only to encourage a habit, but to widen access to knowledge, imagination, and possibility. Because when more people can read, more futures can be rewritten.

For children, learning doesn’t have to feel like work; in fact, it shouldn’t.

Through play-based learning, children explore, experiment, and absorb new skills naturally. With Sun Books’ interactive tools and content, learning becomes an enjoyable experience where reading, games, and discovery come together.

As children play, they build vocabulary, improve comprehension, and develop critical thinking skills; all while having fun. These joyful learning moments create positive associations with reading that can last a lifetime.

Because when children enjoy learning, they’re more likely to keep going, keep growing, and keep reading.
