The NAIDOC Week 2026 theme is "50 Years of Deadly"

July is Disability Pride month ๐ŸŽ‰

While it is not widely celebrated here in Australia (though it grows each year ๐Ÿ’ช) it is certainly significant in what it represents for people living with disabilities. More than 4 million Australians have a disability, which is almost 20 per cent of our population.

This event was created to celebrate the passing of the โ€˜Americans with Disabilities Actโ€™ in July 1990 in the USA. It made discrimination against people with a disability illegal in the USA.

The Disability Pride Flag is a powerful symbol of diversity, resilience and unity in our community.

Each colour represents a different aspect of disability:

โค๏ธ Red โ€“ Physical disabilities
๐Ÿ’› Yellow โ€“ Intellectual & developmental disabilities
๐Ÿค White โ€“ Non-visible & undiagnosed disabilities
๐Ÿ’™ Blue โ€“ Psychological disabilities & mental health
๐Ÿ’š Green โ€“ Sensory disabilities
๐Ÿฉถ Mourning and Remembrance

The Disability Pride Flag was created by Ann Magill (redesigned in 2021 for accessibility).
