Introducing Pirate, a charming little dynamo who is a delightful mix of loyalty, affection, and boundless energy. At just 9 weeks old and weighing a mighty 3.9kg, Pirate may be small, but his personality is impossible to overlook.

Pirate has already shown incredible confidence in navigating his surroundings, sharing his life with an assortment of dogs, cats, horses, goats, and loving humans of all ages. This fearless puppy doesn't quite understand the concept of self-preservation yet, so he'll need a family prepared to guide him safely with gentle and consistent training.

Every day is a new adventure for Pirate, characterized by a simple motto: "Eat, Sleep, Play!" He's happily crate-trained, sleeping soundly through the night, and adores snuggling up with a friend for daytime naps. Pirate's enthusiasm for life is infectious, as he plays tirelessly with canine pals, always game for a friendly wrestle regardless of the size difference.

While his toilet training is progressing well, Pirate's humans will need to stay on alert to help guide this young pup away from little accidents.

It's also worth mentioning that he does show some guarding his food from other dogs, a reflection of his start to life that may have left him hungry at times.

With his fearless confidence and social nature, Pirate sees the world as a playground brimming with potential friends. He's seeking a home full of love, patience, and engaging activities, ideally with another playful dog to frolic with. A family that offers consistent training to nurture his potential as a polite and well-behaved companion will provide an ideal foundation for this eager learner.

Pirate embodies unconditional love, intelligence, and playfulness—traits sure to capture your heart and bring vibrant energy to your life. If you're ready to invite this delightful spirit into your home, Pirate is eager to show you what a loving, smart, and adventurous companion he can truly be.

Please message us if you are interested in adopting Pirate.

Huge shout out to the amazing team at Stylin'Dogs for taking our little Milla at very short notice for a glam makeover before her surgery. 🥰

Caitlyn did a beautiful job transforming Milla from adorable scruff to adorable princess. 😍

We are so grateful to have such wonderful support from our Geelong community.

Thanks, legends!

This weekend's mission:
FIND BEAR A HOME! 💛

We are rather perplexed...
Bear has been in care since March!
How?!

He's only had 4 enquiries and none were suitable. 😩

We'd love your help to find this sweet boy his very own home by sharing this post🙏🏼

Bear is the definition of a true gentleman—beautifully behaved in the home, easy to handle, and a dream on walks with good recall.

He’s got that classic Kelpie brain (smart as anything!) paired with a soft, devoted nature and absolutely adores his humans.
Honestly, he’d choose you over just about anything… every single time.

Bear is a social boy who gets along well with other dogs and dog-savvy cats, but deep down, Bear would be happiest soaking up all the love as your one-and-only.

Favorite things:
🥎Ball enthusiast (collector, chaser, life-long fan)
🏝️Water lover… puddles, splashes, mud—yes please!
🥕 Snack connoisseur—carrots, cucumber, leftovers… he’s not fussy!

Dislikes:
🚫 Foot rubs, washing.or general touching of toe beans… absolutely not, thank you very much

Bear enjoys his adventures but prefers to keep things low-impact—no wild jumping games, as he needs a little care for those joints. He’s happiest with relaxed play, sniffy walks, and time spent by your side.
He’s fantastic with kids of all ages and would suit a reasonably low impact active home—bonus points if someone is around more often than not, because this boy lives for his people.

He did miss the memo that Kelpies are supposed to herd sheep, not chase them down 🤦🏼‍♀️ so a home with livestock won't be suitable.

Bear is equal parts sweet, silly, and soulful—the kind of dog who will make you laugh, keep you company, and quietly steal your heart without even trying.

Breed - Kelpie mix
Age - 10 years
Adoption fee - $400

💛THANK YOU! 💛

We are absolutely blown away by the incredible support from you, our amazing followers.

Your donations, messages, kind words and unwavering support have restored a little lost faith and warmed our hearts more than you know. 🫶🏼

Alan had his surgery today and is recovering well. He is such a sweet, gentle boy, and we’re so relieved he’s now on the road to healing.

Milla is booked in for her surgery next week and she’s spending her time making friends and stealing hearts at her foster home while she waits. 🥰

Because of your generosity and kindness, these two sweet souls can get the care they desperately need, and can continue their journey towards the happy lives they deserve.

And, so importantly, your support means we can keep saying yes to the next dog who needs us.

We are beyond grateful to have such an incredible community standing beside us.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you. 💛

Everyone loves puppies.

And we need people who love puppies! So much so, that they want to welcome pregnant mama dogs into their home to help them through the birthing and rearing process.

It takes a super special human to offer their services as midwife, nanny and teacher to a homeless dog and her vulnerable puddle of puppies.

So if you know someone super special, who:
- loves puppies
- has some free time
- and a safe space

Please ask them to reach out to us ASAP

Together we can help some mums in need.

We realised that we have fallen a bit behind on the introductions, and never got around to showing off our adorable 12 week old Mastiff mix, Gabby.

Coming to us as another veterinary clinic surrender, Gabby was surrendered with a query over a leg injury. Thankfully there has been no further evidence of this and she is almost ready for adoption.

Welcome to our squishy little Rugrat, Gabby!

Nothing fills our hearts with joy in quite the same way as seeing a Yellow Door graduate living a fulfilled and treasured life.

Aspen came to us via a veterinary clinic after she was dumped with a littermate. We weren’t sure of her exact breed composition at the time, but looking at these photos, it is abundantly clear that she is 100% arctic breed!

Seeing Aspen as a treasured family member, joining travel adventures and enjoying activities that are intrinsic to her breed, makes us so grateful to be part of this journey.

Wishing you a long and loved life, Aspen ❄️

To our amazing followers.

We have a difficult & sad update for you.

We have just come out of an emergency committee meeting, and we want to be completely honest with you about where we’re at.

Our veterinary bills have reached a point where we simply can’t continue as we currently are. 🥺

We’ve gone through everything carefully — what we already owe, the animals currently in our care, and the veterinary treatment we know is still ahead of us.

After looking at it all, we’ve made the decision to launch an emergency fundraiser to help clear our vet bills and get the rescue back to a manageable position.

We are hoping we can get at least 12 people to kickstart this fundraiser today by making a donation here:
https://the-yellow-door-rescue-and-rehoming.mygiveeasy.com/we-need-urgent-help/donate

The reality of rescue is that emergencies don’t arrive one at a time. Just in the last few days, we’ve had Milla, an 8-month-old puppy who may require a $10,500 total hip replacement.

Then last night, Alan came into our care with a broken foreleg after he is suspected to have been hit by a car. His emergency surgery is expected to cost more than $6,000. Our current vet bill, without the above is sitting at $11,598.40

And we have more animals currently waiting for vetwork. Every time we say YES to an animal who needs help, another bill follows.

Emergency surgery.
X-rays. Specialists.
Medication.
Hospital stays.
Ongoing treatment.

We will always do everything we possibly can for an animal in need.

But the reality is that we can't keep spending money we don't have. That was the difficult conversation we had today.

And honestly, that is something none of us want to face. So today, we’re asking for your help.

We need to raise $30,000 to clear our current veterinary debt and give the rescue some breathing room.

If everyone who follows us could contribute even $5, it would make an enormous difference. It might be the cost of a coffee, but collectively those small donations can give us the chance to keep saying YES when an animal needs us.

If you’re able to donate, please do so here: https://the-yellow-door-rescue-and-rehoming.mygiveeasy.com/we-need-urgent-help/donate

And once you’ve donated, please comment DONE below. It helps us see who has helped, and it also helps this post reach more people.

PLEASE share this.
Share it with your friends, your family, your workmates — anyone who might be willing to help.

We don't need one person to fix this for us.

We need our community to come together and help us get through it. This community has achieved some incredible things for animals over the years.

We’re asking you to help us do it again.

Many thanks Lisa & Lauren 💛
