Sometimes, independence just needs a few good people and a spanner 🛠️💛

When John’s mobility scooter batteries gave out, the quote to replace them was out of reach. So fellow residents and maintenance staff stepped up. Tools were borrowed, advice shared, and phone calls made. With a bit of teamwork and a very generous assist from Josh at GV Batteries, John’s scooter was back on the road for less than half the cost.

Now he’s riding again, independence restored, garden thriving. Each week he heads to what he calls his church, Bunnings, to pick out a new plant 🌱

It’s community like this that defines Tom Fitzgerald: friendships formed, problems shared, and solutions found together.

Some journeys take you home, even after a lifetime 🕊️

Gilgunya resident Gayle recently returned to Beaufort to visit her parents’ grave, the first time in more than 50 years. She was just six when she survived the car crash that killed them in 1957, and went on to live with her grandmother.

While in town, Gayle also found the house she lived in before the accident. Seventy years on, she still knew where her bedroom was, and remembered the work her father once did there, straight from the local timber yard.

On the two hour drive back to Melbourne, the memories flowed, generously shared with Recreation Coordinator Alby, and held with deep gratitude. 💛

All In for National Reconciliation Week 2026

This year’s theme, All In, is a call to action, not just words, not good intentions, but real commitment, every day. Reconciliation isn’t something we watch from the sidelines. It won’t happen by itself, and it can’t rest on the shoulders of First Nations people alone.

All In reminds us that advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights requires all of us to step up, listen, learn and act, wholeheartedly.

Reconciliation is not passive. It asks something of us all. 🤝

A proper afternoon affair at Lionsville ☕🍰

Resident June took the lead and hosted a high tea for fellow residents, cakes stacked high, scones at the ready and plenty of laughter filling the room. Proof that good company is always worth dressing the table for 💐

A ride, a breeze and a memory brought back to life 🚲🌊

After a resident spoke fondly of his bike‑riding days, the Recreation Team hired a Green Cab and took to the streets of Port Melbourne. Not everyone was up for it, but those who went, including Helen and John, loved every minute.

A spin along the beach, through the local park, waving to passers‑by “like the Queen”, and even time to phone a mate.

Five residents, one simple joy, and plenty of wind in their hair 😄

This week for National Volunteer Week, Delahey residents and staff took a moment to celebrate the people who make their community stronger.

On Tuesday, they shared freshly made scones and meaningful conversations about the value of volunteering and the joy it brings. They are especially grateful for their wonderful volunteers, Jo, Marie, Amale and Sherralie, who generously give their time each week, as well as the many residents who also step up to support others and help create a strong sense of community.

Together, they filled a whiteboard with all the important jobs people contribute to in their shared space, a simple reminder of how much care and teamwork goes into making Delahey such a welcoming place.

Thank you to everyone involved. Your kindness makes a real difference. 💛

A lakeside pause, the simple pleasures 🦆🌿

Tom Fitzgerald residents Geoff, Maureen and Richard spent the day by the lake in Shepparton, watching ducks glide past and stopping for a memorable meet and greet with a gentle Great Dane. 🐶

Geoff on his scooter, Maureen in her wheelchair, Richard close by. Fresh air, good company and a moment worth savouring.

Happy International Nurses Day! 🌟

Yesterday, some of our staff at Williamstown came together to celebrate and recognise the incredible dedication, compassion, and hard work of our nurses. Today, we’re proud to share a special moment from the celebration.

Thank you to all nurses for the care you provide every single day. Your impact on the people who rely on your care and support is truly invaluable. 💙

From admin desk to activity circle 📂➡️❤️

For Mandi, work has always meant more than paperwork. While keeping the office ticking over at Gilgunya, she felt a pull towards something more human. That curiosity led her to study Leisure & Health, and recently swap spreadsheets for smiles during a hands on placement with the Recreation team at McLean Lodge.

The payoff wasn’t the qualification, but the quiet lift in spirits when residents found joy in an activity made just for them. As Mandi puts it: upskilling builds confidence, and better lives. Wise words, and inspiring work. 👏✨

Delahey turns 15 🎉

A homemade lunch, music and a dancefloor in full swing marked 15 years of Delahey.

Resident Peter stole the show, looking sharp in a white hat and dancing ahead of his 93rd birthday. 🎩💃

The candles were blown out by Joyce, a foundation resident celebrating her own 15-year milestone, with a homemade cake thanks to volunteer Jo. A fine way to celebrate. 🎂✨
