Yesterday, Caravan & Residential Parks Victoria was proud to officially launch World Camping Day 2026 at Parliament House, bringing together Members of Parliament, government stakeholders, industry partners and park operators to celebrate Victoria's parks sector and its contribution to tourism, housing and regional communities.

The event highlighted the vitally important role tourist parks play in Victoria's economy, with half of all regional holidays spent in a tourist park, contributing more than $2.6 billion annually, and supporting 17,000 jobs.

We also showcased the growing importance of residential parks and residential land lease communities, which now provide affordable and secure housing for more than 30,000 Victorians.

The launch provided an opportunity to discuss key industry priorities including planning reform, glamping recognition, Crown land leasing, workforce development and climate resilience, while strengthening engagement with Parliamentarians ahead of the Victorian election.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event. We now encourage all members, stakeholders and travellers to get behind World Camping Day 2026 and help showcase everything that makes Victoria's parks sector so special.

Lifestyle benefits from living in a Residential Land Lease Community

Living in a residential land lease community offers a lifestyle that prioritises affordability, security, community and independence. These communities are designed to support people to age-in-place, remaining in a familiar and supportive environment rather than facing the disruption of relocating later in life.

By reducing the burdens of traditional home ownership like land ownership and maintenance costs and providing thoughtfully planned living including high-quality shared amenity spaces, residents can focus on enjoying a fulfilling lifestyle while maintaining control over how they live day to day.

The strong sense of community fostered by land lease living is a significant reason why people are turning to this form of housing as they enter or prepare for retirement. Residents benefit from being surrounded by neighbours who are often at a similar life stage, creating opportunities for meaningful friendships and mutual support. At the same time, many communities in regional Victoria are located close to established neighbourhoods, making it easier to stay connected with family, friends, and existing support networks. Proximity to familiar services, such as healthcare providers, local shops, and community organisations, means residents can continue accessing the people and places they know and trust, helping to maintain both practical independence and emotional wellbeing.

In addition to social connection, the presence of shared amenities and professional management further enhances everyday living. Facilities such as clubhouses, recreational areas, and wellness spaces encourage active lifestyles and provide convenient places for social interaction. Responsive management teams help ensure that the environment remains safe, well-maintained, and supportive, allowing residents to feel confident in their surroundings.

Together, these elements create a living experience that not only supports residents as they age but also enables them to remain connected, engaged, and secure within a community they are proud to call home.

Recently Caravan & Residential Parks Victoria met with Victoria’s newly appointed Minister for Tourism and Minister for Small Business, Natalie Suleyman MP, to formally introduce both the tourist park and residential park sectors and discuss opportunities to strengthen tourism, support regional communities and unlock future investment.

As the largest provider of regional holiday accommodation, our discussions focused on visitor economy growth, regional tourism infrastructure, recognising tourist parks as essential businesses and in small business, the opportunities to increase private investment across Victoria’s residential park sector.

We were encouraged by the Minister’s response to our priority reform agenda from our policy platforms and look forward to continuing the conversation in the months ahead in the lead up to November's State Election.

Recently Caravan & Residential Parks Victoria facilitated an important industry tour with Caravan Industry Victoria and Shadow Minister David Southwick MP to highlight Victoria’s manufacturing capability and the future of tourist and residential park accommodation.

The visit included a tour of Gervale Homes major manufacturing facility in Dandenong South, hosted by Daniel Esler on behalf of Gerry Ryan and the Gervale team, showcasing the strength of Victoria’s UMD cabin manufacturing sector and the opportunities that practical planning reform could unlock for both tourism accommodation and affordable housing outcomes.

Visits like these are an important part of CRPVic’s ongoing advocacy work as we continue engaging with both government and opposition representatives to progress planning reform and policy settings that support investment, housing supply and the future growth of Victoria’s tourist and residential park sectors.
