Victoria Walks Walkable communities are vibrant, healthy and happy communities. Help us spread ! What does walking add to your life?

We share evidence of walking's benefits and the changes that help Victorians to walk more each day. Victoria Walks is an evidence-based health promotion charity, leading the move for walkable communities in Australia since 2009. We work primarily in Victoria, but increasingly nationally & internationally, to enable all types of walking – recreational, incidental and transport related. OUR VISION:

Healthier, connected communities through more people walking more every day. OUR ROLE:
To facilitate and inspire more walking throughout the community. To capture, translate and promote evidence on the impact and value of walking. To be a trusted expert, positively influencing decision-makers. The outcomes we seek…
INCREASED walking participation: We see more people walking more every day throughout the community. DEMONSTRABLE investment: Meaningful action and investment from government at all levels and decision-makers throughout the community. Our sister-site Walking Maps www.walkingmaps.com.au is very important to our work. It allows Victorians to find great walks across the state, or to map their own favourite walks and share them with friends and communities.

Looking to get out of town for the long weekend?

Tahbilk Eco Trails is one of those walks where the sense of place unfolds gradually, making it particularly rewarding for a day trip.

The trails wind through river flats, wetlands and timber boardwalks, moving past billabongs and backwaters that attract birdlife and invite you to slow your pace.

It’s an easy circuit that comfortably fills an afternoon, pairing walking with exploration to making the journey out of the city feel like part of the experience.

Spring Creek in Buchan Caves Reserve is one of those walks where you quickly forget the outside world.

The track dips and climbs through cool rainforest, follows the creek closely in places, and opens out to a lookout over the falls when the timing (and water levels) are right.

It’s a walk that rewards curiosity rather than speed, pausing for mossy rocks, listening for birds and enjoying the shelter of the forest, especially as the weather cools.

Our latest research finds that people aged 65 and over are nearly three times more likely to be killed while walking than younger pedestrians.

Risk rises sharply with age – especially at speeds that are still common on urban streets.

Designing streets for the most vulnerable in our communities, safer crossings and lower vehicle speeds are essential for the future safety of pedestrians as Australia's population continues to age.

The Merri Creek Trail is a classic track that shows how much nature and history can sit alongside everyday streets.

This section of the trail takes you past the Bababi Djinanang grasslands, a quiet section of the Merri Creek, and the Leonard St remnant grasslands in an easy circuit that starts in Fawkner.

Helping young people stay healthy and active starts with good conversations, supportive relationships and opportunities to get outside and move.
Walking is one simple way families can support physical and mental wellbeing, but many parents and carers are also navigating conversations about va**ng and ni****ne harm with young people.
If you’re looking for support on how to talk with your teen about va**ng, our colleagues and supporters at VicHealth have developed a helpful guide for parents and carers.
Check out the resource Talking to your teen about va**ng.

This guide can help you have a meaningful, non-threatening conversation with your teen about va**ng. You won’t find a set of scripted questions – we don’t want to put words in your mouth.

When the air is crisp, a stroll around the lake reflects the changing colours of the season.

This easy circuit follows the Peace Mile path around the water, with plenty of birdlife, tranquil views and spots to pause and take it all in. Plus it's close to cafés for a well‑earned warm drink afterwards!
