This year, we are pleased to announce our event will be hosted by Daham Nekitanaya, a Sri Lankan Theravada temple located in Yuroke. Date: 29th May 2022
Time: 9am - 1pm
Location: 1690 Mickleham Road, Yuroke

Our commemoration will consist of a Sangha Dana. It will commence with the traditional Pindapatha, the offering of alms by the laity to the Venerable Sangha as they walk the temple grounds. Th

is will be followed by a Buddha Puja, welcome speech by the Abbot of Daham Nekitanaya, Most Venerable Kotte Santhindriya Thero, chanting and blessings by each of the major Buddhist traditions and then the serving of dana to the Venerable Sangha. Then lay persons have the opportunity to offer Pirikara to the venerable sangha. The program will conclude with lunch for lay participants. Vesak is celebrated by Buddhist communities around the world, when we come together to commemorate the birth, passing and enlightenment of the Lord Buddha. Buddhism spans cultural groups such as Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Indian, Japanese, Karen, Korean, Laotion, Tiawanese, Tibetan, Sri Lankan, Thai to name but a few. Buddhism has a long history in Victoria, beginning at the time gold rush days around the late 1840's and continues today with a unique representation of many cultural groups and traditions and forms practiced in Melbourne and around the state. This a free event and provides access for disabled persons.
