The Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim and Virtual will take place on Sunday 21 February to Sunday 28 February 2027. See you at The Magic!

The event offers a two-swim program, a 1km course perfect for beginners or a more challenging 2.5km for more experienced swimmers, and our 5km swim for those that want an extra challenge. Created by a committee headed by the late Olympic legend Murray Rose, the swim has won praise from the passionate ocean swim community and has continued to rise in popularity since its inception in 2009 and is now known as the most inclusive swim on the circuit. The swim is a key fund-raising event for the Rainbow Club of Australia, a registered non-profit charity that provides swimming lessons for children with disabilities. Thanks to the good work of RCA, more than 2300 children across NSW, QLD, the ACT and now in VIC can take weekly swim lessons, and find their freedom and confidence in the water.

If you prefer to register in person on the day, get down to South Maroubra Surf Club from 7.30am.
We'll start off at 8.30am with the 500m splash and dash, all swimmers aged 8 and up welcome. The 1km and 2.5km swims follow, for swimmers aged 12 and up.
Live music and community BBQ at South Maroubra Surf Club afterwards, everyone welcome. The best day of the autumn swim calendar.

The last swim in the Triple Crown Challenge

South Maroubra Ocean Swim is the ultimate season-closer. Set at one of Sydney’s classic southern beaches, this swim wraps up the summer calendar with a bang.

Come along for friendly finish-line vibes, crisp autumn water, and a beach buzzing with post-swim banter and celebrations. The South Maroubra SLSC knows how to welcome all comers, with solid water safety, and a community atmosphere that hits all the right notes.

Choose your challenge: the short and sharp 500m, a cruisey 1km, or the longer 2.5km loop around the bay.

If you completed the Malabar Magic Virtual Swim, you’re still in the running for the Flooring Xtra Triple Crown Series and a chance to win one of two $1,000 cash prizes.

The series continues this Sunday 12 April at the Coogee Island Challenge. Complete any distance to remain in contention, with one $1,000 prize awarded to a male swimmer and one to a female swimmer.

Then finish the series at South Maroubra SLSC Ocean Swim on Sunday 26 April to qualify for the final draw and join the dedicated Triple Crown swimmers completing the full set.

Entries are still open for the Coogee Island Challenge. Register now and best of luck.

The Coogee Island Challenge Autumn Edition is one of the final major ocean swims of the season and a second chance to take on the iconic Wedding Cake Island circuit before winter sets in.
