It is with deep sadness that Ipswich Railway RSL Sub branch announces the passing of long serving Sub branch member Doug Simonds at 102 years of age. Doug has been a member of the RSL since 1947 and his contribution to the League over nearly eight decades is a testament to the character of the WW2 generation and their commitment to the wellbeing of fellow veterans.
Doug’s funeral will be held at the Warrill Park cemetery chapel on Thursday the 25th June commencing at 10.00am. All members of the veteran community will be welcome to attend and farewell Doug. Messages of condolence can be directed to the Ipswich Railway RSL Sub branch via email to [email protected] and those messages will be passed on to Doug’s family.

A big shout out to Peter and staff from Ellen and Rod’s cafe in Roderick St for their wonderful support of the Ipswich veteran community. Ipswich Railway RSL sub branch members called by yesterday to thank Peter for his generous donation of money raised from coffee sales on ANZAC day. This has been a very personal initiative by Peter over many years and we are extremely grateful for his ongoing support. The coffee and blueberry muffins were delicious, thanks again Peter.

The long Ride is on again this time we ride to Tasmania. It’s early days but time flys, so I’ve started the fund raising straight away. Please support the Prostate Cancer Awareness fund raiser. Any ideas to raise some much needed dollars please contact the sub- branch.

The Ipswich and West Moreton Sub Section of the Naval Association of Australia is conducting a General Meeting at CSI Ipswich in the Long Tan Room on Saturday the 13 June 2026 at 1300hrs.

All serving and ex serving members of the RAN are welcome.

CALLING ALL YOUNGER VETERANS AND SERVING MEMBERS.

The Ipswich Railway RSL Sub-Branch is working to build a stronger, more connected veteran community and would love to see more younger veterans involved.

Whether you served full-time or reserves, recently discharged or left years ago you're welcome to join our sub-branch.

We have wellbeing and compensation advocates here to support veterans and their families. What we would like is to look more into family-friendly activities and opportunities to connect with other veterans in a relaxed environment and that's where you come into play.

If you'd like to help shape the future of the sub-branch, come along and get involved. Your ideas, experience, and voice matters.

Lets get away from the stigma it's just for older people and join the younger veterans we already have.
