We know there are many veterans out there who have been waiting a damn long time for DVA to finalise their claims.
If you're one of them, don't be afraid to call once a week for an update. Don't be afraid to ask your advocate to follow up on your behalf either. Your claim matters, and you have every right to ask where things stand.
We are currently working with a veteran who served in the Army as part of the Maralinga clean-up after the atomic bomb tests. He has had claims sitting with DVA for three years. Three years.
If you're feeling frustrated or exhausted by the process, you're not alone. Many veterans are facing similar delays, but that doesn't mean you should stop advocating for yourself. Every phone call, every follow-up, and every conversation helps keep your claim visible and moving.
Stay persistent. Keep records of your calls and correspondence. Lean on your advocate if you have one, and don't hesitate to seek support when you need it.
Most importantly, don't lose hope. You've already served your country—it's okay to expect the system to do its part for you. Keep pushing, keep asking questions, and keep believing that your voice deserves to be heard.
We're standing with you every step of the way.
