Today, YNOT was proud to support young people to speak directly with Members of Parliament about the Conversion Practices Prohibition Bill 2026.

Independent MPs Craig Garland, George Razay, Kristie Johnston and Helen Burnett, together with an adviser to Peter George MP, heard directly from four remarkable young people ahead of the Bill’s debate in the House of Assembly this week.

A huge thank you to Opal, Sage, Naomi and Skye for speaking with such courage, honesty and conviction about an issue that matters deeply to them. Young people deserve to be heard and their views must help shape the laws that affect their lives.

YNOT also extends its thanks to YNOT member Working It Out and its CEO, Liv Hogarth, for attending the meeting and contributing to the discussion.

Want to help create something new?

Expressions of Interest are now open for Tin Camp at Rosny Farm.

We're looking for young people aged 16–24 from across Tasmania to help shape, build and bring a temporary creative space to life. No previous experience or fully formed idea is needed, just an interest in getting involved and trying something new.

YNOT would like to congratulate Sonya Pringle-Jones on her appointment as the new Commissioner for Children and Young People Tasmania! 🎉

YNOT has had the pleasure of working with Sonya and her team at DECYP, supporting the development of the Child and Youth Participation and Empowerment Guide. We have valued her commitment to ensuring children and young people are meaningfully involved in decisions that affect them.

We’re particularly pleased that young Tasmanians had a genuine say in selecting their new Commissioner through a youth-led selection panel, an approach YNOT advocated for.

We look forward to continuing our work with Sonya to strengthen and uphold the rights, voice and participation of children and young people across Tasmania.
