Unions Tasmania in Conversation with Race Discrimination Commissioner, Giridharan Sivaraman.

Join Unions Tasmania and Migrant Workers Hub for a conversation about racism in the workplace, its impacts, and what we can do to create safer, fairer and more respectful workplaces.

This is an in-person event with the Race Discrimination Commissioner addressing the issue of racism at work, followed by a facilitated panel, and afternoon tea.

It is a completely free event, but registrations are essential.

Join us for a FREE information session to learn more about your rights at work in Australia and the new visa protections.

This session has been organised with the support of our Multicultural Ambassador, Joy, in collaboration with the Hobart Bangla Community.

International students, temporary graduate visa holders, skilled, employer-sponsored visa holders, and people on other temporary visas with work rights are welcome to attend.

Make sure your voice is heard. We are inviting workers across Tasmania to take part in the Tasmanian Workplace Respect & Safety Survey.

The survey will help us better understand what workers are experiencing and what employers can do to prevent racism and create safer, more respectful workplaces.

The survey is completely anonymous and open to all Tasmanian workers.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Community Information Session on Thursday, 1 October.

The session brought together information on workplace rights, understanding entitlements, identifying workplace exploitation, where workers can go for support, and the barriers that can sometimes make it difficult to speak up.

We also heard from Amy Brumby, State Secretary for United Workers Union (UWU) about the role of unions and how they can support workers, followed by Malina Grube and Gopika Aryad, Solicitors at the IARC - Immigration Advice & Rights Centre Inc (IARC), who shared information on recent migration changes, visa protections for temporary migrant workers and permanent residency pathways.

A special thank you to Amy, Malina and Gopika for joining us and sharing their expertise.
