/// Israel has killed more than 800 athletes in Gaza during the ongoing genocide, including 421 football players. Additionally, they target limbs of players, detain them or prevent them from travelling and have destroyed 288 sports facilities in Gaza and the West Bank.

FIFA has not suspended or sanctioned the israeli Football Association, and instead continues to support their artswashing and sportswashing of genocide, apartheid and occupation.

Compare this to Russia: within days of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, FIFA and UEFA suspended all Russian national and club teams from competition “until further notice.” That ban remains in place today, four years on, locking Russia out of the 2026 World Cup entirely. Yet despite far longer-documented violence against Palestinian athletes, no such consequence has ever applied to israel, only the same artswashing and sportswashing playbook used to launder its image through the sport.

And of course, Israel isn’t the only colonial project FIFA provides these services to. For instance, they recently handed their ‘peace prize’ to Donald Trump. ///

At our Nakba rally, Nunami stood with us, and reminded us that colonialism has no borders, and neither does resistance ❤️‍🔥

We are honoured and moved that First Nations voices are always with us in our call for Palestinian justice because they know that these struggles are not separate. They are one.

A signal box in Nipaluna/Hobart is now a canvas for Palestinian culture 🎨🌟

TPAN is proud to have commissioned local Palestinian artists Ayda Issa and Sam O'Neil, with the assistance of Andy Bennett, to bring this work to life on a high-exposure site in the heart of Nipaluna, where it will live for the next year.

The design is rooted in tatreez, the ancient Palestinian embroidery tradition recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. Each stitch of tatreez is a visual language, passed from mother to daughter for generations, carrying memory, identity, and resistance 🪡❤️‍🔥

The sunbird, symbolising freedom, and the olive, representing agricultural pride and economic strength, are integrated into a design that speaks to the enduring spirit of Palestinian culture, one that has survived and persisted through colonisation and displacement 🕊️🫒

This reflection by Dr. Adel Yousif is a follow-on from our diaspora statement written by Ayda Issa and forms part of a broader series showcasing the voices and experiences of local Palestinians in the diaspora.

It continues a collective effort to document and centre Palestinian perspectives on identity, lived experience, and advocacy within so-called Australia.

Stay tuned for the next iteration in a series of Palestinian diaspora reflections, focusing on the politics of liberation activism and decolonialism, developed as a collaboration between Ayda Issa and Feras Shaheen.

thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday for the opening night event of the Visit Palestine Project poster exhibition.

The posters will continue to be exhibited for the next two weeks with the final day to view the posters being the 19th of June.

This exhibition of the .palestine_project posters has been brought to Nipaluna by local community organisers and in collaboration with TPAN.

To support the fundraising aims of this exhibition, a raffle has been organised with prizes donated by amazing local artists and craftspeople. The full list of prizes can be viewed on the final two slides. Tickets can be purchased in person at the cafe when you stop by to view the posters, grab a coffee or enjoy some food. Raffle tickets can also be purchased by following the directions in the last slide (text in comments).

These posters have profound value as testaments to the resilience and resistance of the Palestinian people as they survive genocide at the hands of israel and the western colonial powers. Alongside the opening night fundraiser event, several parallel events have been organised to support the exhibition including the raffle, the two workshop events and the silent auction of a piece of artwork created in response to the posters by Palawa Pakana man and artist .

Please note, the auction is only for this piece of artwork. The posters are not available to be sold or auctioned. If you’re interested in having your own copies of the posters, the only reproduction available is in the accompanying catalogue available for purchase in person at or by contacting the organisers.

🌱 Spinach, Briefly: a workshop on gardening in the commons with the amazing Grace Gamage 🌱
Grace’s workshop will cover the practicals of record keeping and relational databases while keeping spinach as the central thread, the history, the etymology, the politics of what gets flattened when a vegetable becomes a product.
palestine_project involves a collection of original Palestinian resistance posters from the 1970s to 1990s. After spending time with these illustrations of Palestinian resistance; resilience born in the face of ongoing and historic genocide, dispossession and colonisation, the supporting workshops gives you a chance to direct your energy towards action.
