Sam’s Spares is a WA-based charity and social enterprise creating paid employment for neurodivergent individuals by refurbishing donated IT, reducing e-waste, and providing free technology to those who need it most. 🎤 2024 Auspire Ambassador

Sam's Spares: A Not-for-Profit Organisation Helping the Environment and Communities. Many discarded devices still have life left in them, and they can be repaired or refurbished to serve a new purpose. That's where Sam's Spares comes in. We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to reducing IT Computer E-waste and bridging the gap between the IT end-user and the E-waste recycler. Our mission is to refurbish and repair discarded computer electronics, making them available to those in need and providing training in repairs for our neurodivergent community. All refurbished items are distributed free of charge through our Peer-Partner Organisations. This year, our newly established Peer-Partner network includes community legal services, rehabilitation providers, youth services, education providers and disability support services. Sam's Spares ensures through these partnerships that the devices reach the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society. In addition to our environmental and social impact, Samuel Thomas of Sam's Spares provides one-on-one training opportunities for neurodivergent individuals. Sam offers through the NDIS a support program that teaches repair and refurbishment skills to people on the autism spectrum, ADHD, or with other cognitive differences. This support helps to develop their technical abilities, as well as their communication and teamwork skills. Moreover, it gives them a sense of purpose and belonging as they contribute to a meaningful cause and work alongside like-minded individuals. Sam's Spares is a shining example of how not-for-profit organisations can positively impact the environment and communities. By bridging the gap between e-waste and people in need, we create a win-win situation that benefits everyone

📣 BIG announcement 📣 We’re thrilled to welcome the School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (EECMS) at Curtin University as a new partner! 🤝🎉

At the heart of this partnership is a shared belief in creating access, opportunity, and meaningful impact through technology, while expanding our G1G1 (Give One, Get One) program to help support even more students 🌱

A huge thank you to Tiffany Jones, Lecturer and EECMS Sustainability Committee member, for reaching out and helping kickstart this exciting partnership. We’re incredibly grateful for her support and also for connecting us with Professor Tele Tan AM to also help bring this collaboration to life.

Professor Tele Tan AM is Deputy Head of School at Curtin University and is widely recognised as a Digital Disruptor in ICT education. His leadership, particularly in recognising and supporting the talents of students with autism, continues to create meaningful opportunities for future generations.

As part of this partnership, Curtin University is also a Digital Access School and has received 12 devices for students in need, along with Optus SIMs and dongles through our G1G1 program, ensuring students have both access to technology and the connectivity needed to fully participate in learning 💻📶

We’re also proud to have delivered one of our blue collection cages to campus, officially establishing Curtin University as a new drop-off location. Staff and students can now easily donate technology they no longer need, directly supporting our mission at Sam’s Spares ♻️💙

We’re incredibly grateful for the shared vision and energy from the Curtin team, and we’re excited for what we can build together next 🤝✨

A major milestone in our Optus partnership 💙📶

The first wave of mobile broadband dongles and SIM cards is now leaving Sam’s Spares and making its way into the community!

Each SIM includes 12 months of connectivity support, helping ensure that access to a device now comes with sustained access to the internet that powers it.

This marks a huge step forward in delivering fully connected digital inclusion, not just providing technology, but ensuring people can truly use it.

We’re incredibly proud to see this program move from vision to action 🚀

🌏♻️ Happy World Environment Day! ♻️🌏

At Sam's Spares, every day is World Environment Day.

Every laptop refurbished.
Every phone reused.
Every device kept out of landfill.
Every opportunity created.

Technology is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world, yet so many devices still have plenty of life left in them 💻♻️

That's where we come in.

Our mission is simple:
Give technology a second life while creating positive social and environmental impact.

Through refurbishment, recycling, and our Get One, Give One program, we're helping reduce e-waste, provide access to technology for people who need it most, and creating meaningful opportunities within our community 💙

Because sustainability isn't just about what we save from landfill, it's about what we create along the way.

Today, on World Environment Day, we're proud to be part of a future where old tech becomes new opportunities ♻️💫

Thank you to every person, business, school, and organisation that has donated, purchased, volunteered, or supported Sam's Spares. You're helping make a real difference 🌏💙
