🚨⚠️251.1ha of native vegetation proposed to be cleared in the Swan Coastal Plain ⚠️🚨

It has just been brought to our attention that the Keralup Energy Hub Thermal (Gas) powered power plant is proposed for Keralup within the City of Rockingham and Shire of Murray.

The EPA has opened a 7 day comment on new referral window for the Keralup Energy Hub 2 days ago on the 26th of October 2026 the deadline is November 1st for comment.

The proposal will include the construction and operation of a temporary 210 megawatt (MW) capacity gas-fuelled power supply, operated as an islanded power network for a potential future industrial client. A permanent 660 MW gas-fuelled power supply, including a battery energy storage system, will be constructed and be connected to the southwest interconnected system.

The proposal has a disturbance footprint of 281 hectares (ha) within a 452.4 ha development envelope, including clearing of 251.1 ha of native vegetation.

There's one week left to take part in the 2026 Quenda Count!

Have you spotted a quenda in your backyard, local bushland or on a regular walk? There's still time to contribute to this important citizen science project - the survey period runs until the end of October.

Data collected through the Quenda Count helps monitor populations of our quendas and supports ongoing conservation efforts.

Taking part is easy: choose a site, spend some time looking for quendas, and record what you see using the survey data sheet supplied. Even if you don't spot any quendas, your survey is still valuable and helps build a clearer picture of local populations.

This is a great activity if you're interested in citizen science or have budding scientists in the house.

This was posted in the groupchat yesterday by some board members and it was too good not to share. This is a South West carpet python ('wakarl' in Noongar) and Dr Drew estimates it's about two metres long. Adults can reach over three metres in length. They eat birds, reptiles, frogs, and mammals.

This species is currently 'of least concern' in terms of conservation status but is rapidly losing habitat and they are also preyed on by cats and foxes.
