Young people in Geelong deserve access to mental health support when they need it 🫶
this is a key policy priority for our Alliance and we are thrilled to see the expansion of Headspace Geelong’s services.

Big news for headspace Geelong today. It's going to be one of the first headspace centres nationally to be expanded into a headspace Plus. This means more services and more staff.

Deputy PM and Corio MP Richard Marles visited the centre with Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Su***de Prevention Emma McBride to make the announcement alongside headspace staff, youth advocates and supporters including their CEO Jason Trethowan and Western Victoria Primary Health Network's CEO Craig Wilding.

The Real Deal Geelong Alliance held a productive discussion with Richard Marles MP on bridging the energy divide. Following the success of home battery subsidies, we pushed for urgent investment to ensure renters and low-income earners aren’t left behind in the transition to clean energy.

Richard acknowledged this gap and encouraged our continued advocacy for a fairer system.

We highlighted the Renew Australia For All Climate Safety Plan which calls for reform of and further investment in the Disaster Ready Plan.

We highlighted broad community support for a Gas Export Tax, which would generate $17B annually to fund climate disaster resilience and provide cost-of-living relief. This revenue would lower power bills through home electrification and energy efficiency upgrades while supporting other essential community programs.

Buses for the Bellarine! On the back of Real Deal Geelong’s advocacy for the Lara to Avalon bus win, we’re pleased to see that today the State Government has officially announced new funding for added bus routes for Ocean Grove and Drysdale.

Improved public transport is about more than timetables, it allows Geelong locals to access work, school and each other. We’re glad to see this investment in our region’s future.

While these new routes are a great win, we need a Greater Geelong transport network that works as a whole - reducing traffic, lowering fuel costs, and making sure no one is left behind. We know that cost of living pressures can be alleviated if we can access better public transport across our City.

The government recently wrapped up its community consultation on the Geelong, Bannockburn, and Bellarine Bus Network Review. We’re calling on them to deliver on those findings and continue connecting our City.

The Victorian government is planning to pump more money into public transport in next week’s state budget, with Geelong to benefit. $100 million is being allocated to expand bus services…
