Jumped into an Uber today and was asked, “Are you Aboriginal?” When I said yes, my driver smiled and greeted me with “Yaama.”

He then thanked me — and all Aboriginal people — for caring for our beautiful Country for over 65,000 years. He spoke with such love, respect and genuine admiration for our people and culture. It was unexpected, heartfelt and deeply moving.

Moments like this remind me how powerful connection and respect can be. Two strangers, a simple ride, and a beautiful yarn about Country, culture and gratitude.

Thank you, Mohammad, for your kindness and respect.

Such a beautiful trip, and thank you for getting me to my destination safely 🖤💛❤️🚙
