Geelong Housing Action Group - GHAG We are a grassroots activist group that is demanding an end to homelessness and housing insecurity. We reject the ongoing privatisation of the housing sector.

The system is broken after decades of neglect from all levels of government. This page is not designed to be used as a housing service, or an emergency relief service. We are an activist group to lobby politicians and councils, and create awareness of housing and homelessness. Thanks to everyone who came out today to speak out against the disgusting lack of inaction by all levels of government in solving the housing insecurity and homelessness crisis in our community. People before profit!

This morning! Please come!

This morning! Please come!

“Over 1500 people are homeless in Geelong on any given night,” according to Geelong Housing Action Group organiser Angela Carr.

Carr said, “Homelessness is the end result of years of failed government policy at all levels. The Victorian government has essentially abandoned the homeless by cutting critical services and reducing public housing to the lowest proportion in the country at just 3%.”

“We demand housing justice that includes an immediate increase in and a stop to the demolition of public housing, a freeze on rents and the elimination of land banking, just to name a few solutions.”

"With Homelessness Week drawing to a close, Geelong Housing Action Group urges you to get down to the Speakout at 11am tomorrow on the corner of Little Malop and Moorabool St Geelong."

Socialist Alliance candidates contesting the November State Elections will attend the Speakout. They believe the elections provide an opportunity for homelessness and public housing advocacy groups across the State to apply pressure on the Labor State Government to reinvest in public housing.
