A small friendly bush walking club enjoying nature together. This Mornington Peninsula based club offers great Sunday and some Wednesday walks.

The Bunarong Bushwalking Club was established in 1994 and has continued to provide broad programs offering enjoyable walking experiences for the past 22 years. Bunarong Bush Walking Club's aim is to provide an interesting and varying selection of walks for people to enjoy our beautiful natural surroundings with like minded people in a friendly atmosphere. This club provides great walks and outdoor activities as well as social activities.

🌧️ They cancelled the MotoGP on Sunday, but it didn’t deter our bushwalkers! 🌧️

Constant rain before and during Sunday’s walk made it a close call, and in the end only 4 of us set out. 🥾

We shortened the planned 17 km walk to 14 km, cutting out a steep down-and-up section because the slopes were very slippery. We walked the BT Divide Track up to Davis Road and back, and it was still a challenging day with over 500 m of elevation gain.

Those who made it were glad they did and got to see hiow well their wet weather gear worked :-). We had plenty of lyrebird sightings, and we came across a number of yabby-like creatures on the track. 🦜🦐

Thanks to Tony for leading, and to our hardy four for turning up in the wet.

🌿 Wednesday walkers take on a different section ofArthurs Seat! 🌿

Yesterday, 11 of us headed to Dromana for a 9 km circuit through Arthurs Seat State Park on the Mornington Peninsula, led by Tony.

Starting from Boundary Road, we climbed through lovely native forest, and a few steep inclines early on got the heart rate up. Our reward was the boardwalk around the picturesque OT Dam. 🌳

The dam has a fascinating history. It was built in 1934 by local men using horse-drawn scoops for the OT Cordial Company, later part of Kia Ora Cordials. The company’s chilli cordial gave the dam its name! 🌶️

Afterwards we headed to the Wombat Cafe & Store on Boundary Road, an all-vegan cafe with fantastic coffee. ☕ Many of us were surprised to find how delicious iced coffees can be made with non-dairy milk, and we’ll definitely be back!

🌿 A wonderful reminder of Melbourne’s natural beauty! 🌿

Today’s 12 km Yarra River loop walk set off from Johnston Street, Collingwood, with 12 enthusiastic walkers heading out along the Main Yarra Trail.

The route followed the Yarra River and Merri Creek reserves, meandering through beautiful river gum forests and peaceful riverside tracks. Just 5 kilometres from Melbourne’s C*D, this hidden oasis offered a refreshing blend of nature, wildlife and serenity.

We travelled to the walk by public transport and finished off the day at one of Melbourne’s iconic pubs, The Cricketers on Punt Road. 🍻

Those of us who couldn't attend the Federation weekend we used the opportunity to preview a walk. Previews are very important to our club to ensure the safety of all our members. Four of us headed out to MacKenzies Flat reserve to do the Lerderderg Gorge loop. The club had previously done this walk a few years ago. This time the conditions had changed immensely the river level was much higher with water covering most of the stepping stones causing wet boots and socks. The tracks have deteriorated on the steep inclines and declines although we were able to navigate the trails a walk that used to be 5 to 6 hours took closer to 9 hours. Our club thanks the members who donated their time to preview this walk however the track is not suitable for a club walk at this stage.

Not a club walk this weekend, however it has been a great weekend at the Fed Walks Great South West Walk weekend. Lovely weather and beautiful scenery along the coast and in the Cobboboonee National Park. Many thanks to the Friends of the Great South West Walk for such an amazing weekend
