Frankston Chess Club is now closed for 2025, and will be reopening on Wednesday 21st of January 2026.
We wish all our current players, former players, and future players a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year; not to mention a peaceful chess game or more with friends and family...even enemies.

Last night, an impromptu 7 round (5min 3sec) Chess960 (Fischer Random Chess) tournament was played, where 15 players engaged in hard fought battles on the chess board.
Even a cry of "off with her head" was heard.
The winner on the night ended up taking home a 3/4 Family size Aussie pizza as a left over prize.

In short, our last night was a lot of fun with all of us enjoying the pizzas and companionship which our club and the people in it facilitated.

Results for the night and pictures are below:

Congratulations to our top three.
1. James
2. Tim
3. Shannon

Last week (15 Oct) Frankston Chess Club decided to have a bit of fun, by playing a "Hand and Brain" chess competion.

Game information: chess.com/terms/hand-and-brain-chess

Eight teams (16 players) started the night, with one team having to leave early. Others who did not play in the competition played casual chess in another area of the club.

Much banter and laughter was had on the night, with many "hands" not moving the way their "brains" instructed. 🤣

Results, and some of our compeditors are shown in the pictures below.
1st: Two teams on 3 points.
2nd: Two teams on 2 points.
3rd: Four teams on 1 point.

Thank you Paris for suggesting the event, and James for organising it.

On Wednesday the 16th of July, we had just over 30 people attend our club to play Chess and Backgammon. Picture shown below.

A warm welcome to the new players, Chess and Backgammon alike, who came down to see our club in action. We hope you enjoyed yourselves here, and hope to see you again in the coming weeks.

Unfortunately our frankstonchessclub.com website has not been updated to show our tournament schedule for the second half of this year, as our tournament organiser is currently away in Italy with another Frankston Chess Club member, playing in the World Youth Teams Bridge Championships in the under 26 division.
Good luck Matt and Heath. We know you will make Australia proud. 🙂

On that note, the new schedule will be up on our website upon his return.

Given the above, I wish to inform everyone that our Frankston Chess Club Championship Tournament starts on Wednesday the 24th of July at 8 pm.

One year has passed!
Yesterday, the 3rd of July 2025, Mentone hosted Frankston in our annual interclub chess competition.
After last year's 4.5 point draw between the clubs, this year's games were all about showing which club really has the best players overall.
The clubs were vying for honour, pride, glory, prestige, ... not to mention the satisfaction of beating the other club.
There were 16 players from each club, playing one game, at 60 min plus 10 sec.
The results were as follows:

Board Mentone Result Frankston
1 Leon (B) 0 - 1 Tim (W)
2 Harley (W) ½ - ½ James (B)
3 Stefan (B) ½ - ½ Matt (W)
4 Senith (W) 1 - 0 Jack (B)
5 Rhys (B) 1 - 0 Jonno (W)
6 William (W) ½ - ½ Chris (B)
7 Nachiket (B) 1 - 0 Heath (W)
8 Jack (W) ½ - ½ Alex (B)
9 Monty (B) ½ - ½ Moustafa (W)
10 Sougata (W) ½ - ½ Erik (B)
11 Anya (B) 0 - 1 Paris (W)
12 Nick (W) 1 - 0 Bastian (B)
13 Nathan (B) 0 - 1 Shannon (W)
14 Evan (W) 1 - 0 Marcus (B)
15 Sylvia (B) 0 - 1 Roberto (W)
16 Serena (W) 0 - 1 Jesse (B)
-------------------------------------------------------------
MENTONE 8 - 8 FRANKSTON

Another year and another draw!
The cut-throat rivalry between the clubs will continue next year at Frankston.
A big thank you to Mentone for hosting the game this year, and the organisers, Leon from Mentone and Tim from Frankston...and how can I forget the players themselves.

Hello Frankston Chess Club enthusiasts, or any enthusiasts for that matter.

We held our 9 round Fast Blitz tournament yesterday, being the 16th of April 2025. 3 min + 2 sec of chess pace at its finest, and not.
22 players in total.

A number of players were away on holidays; where others didn't want to come down and play fast games; old fashioned and slow thought processes I guess!?
I might get in trouble for that last statement. 😉

Congratulations to Tim, Matt and James for their 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the tournament.

1. Our top three. Pickle my grandmother, but no cheese. 😀
2. Waiting for the next round to be announced. 👍

Untill next time...Hope to see you at our club.
