But behind each journey are the same barriers: rising education costs, from laptops and textbooks to transport and living expenses, putting opportunity further out of reach for too many young people in Melbourne’s west and Geelong.

Our Western Chances community shone brightly at the recent Brimbank City Council Awards! 🌟

Two of our incredible recipients and alumni, Todd and Milena, were nominated for the 2026 Youth Citizen Award 👏 — recognising young people creating a brighter future through leadership and community impact.

A special congrats to Todd Truong, who was named the 2026 Youth Citizen Award winner for his commitment to amplifying underrepresented voices and creating meaningful change in the community.

We’re so proud of Milena and Todd, and loved seeing 2025 award winner Billy and recipient Adriel celebrating alongside them.

The future is in good hands — we can’t wait to see what’s next. 🧡

We’re excited to share our Western Chances Ambassador Program has officially launched!! 🎉

Made possible by the Freemasons Foundation, this initiative brought 26 of our recipients together to build leadership skills, grow their confidence and represent Western Chances in the community.

Our first session focused on confidence building, helping our ambassador’s step into their roles with clarity and purpose. Thank you to our incredible confidence coach, Anita, for leading this session, and to our ambassador Mohamed for sharing his valuable reflections.

Thank you to the Freemasons Foundation of Victoria for their generous support in bringing this program to life.

We’re so excited for the sessions ahead and to follow our ambassadors on their journey!

Western Chances was proud to partner with RMIT University, who generously awarded 10 notebook computer grants valued at up to $1,000 each to support our scholarship recipients beginning their studies at university.

Delivered through the RMIT Equity Notebook Grant Program, these laptops equip students with the tools they need from day one of their studies. 💻

"I'm finally able to relax without the worry of needing to constantly keep my computer charged. The importance of a reliable computer is unmatched!" shared Isabella, one of the recipients who received a laptop ahead of commencing her studies in 2026.

Last week, Western Chances was honoured to welcome Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Governor of Victoria, to our Footscray office.

Hosted by Founding Chair Terry Bracks and CEO Jackie Taylor, Her Excellency met with our recipients and alumni, hearing firsthand about their journeys and the impact of Western Chances scholarships. She also spent time with our team to learn more about our work across Melbourne’s west and Geelong.

The visit provided an opportunity to hear directly from young people about their lived experiences and aspirations, and to share how our holistic approach — through financial assistance, internships and tailored opportunities — supports them to overcome barriers and thrive in education and beyond.

Thank you to the Maribyrnong City Council Mayor and CEO for their attendance and valued support.

Three peaks. Three days. One incredible community effort! 🙌

A huge thank you to IG, Cirka, Melbourne Airport, Kinetic and Victoria University and our amazing recipients and alumni for taking on the challenge collectively raising roughly $40,000 towards Western Chances scholarships.

Every step taken and every dollar raised will help directly support almost 40 students, giving them the opportunity to pursue their education and future goals.

And they are off!!! 🏔️✨

Good luck to our trekkers from Western Chances, IG, Cirka, Melbourne Airport, Kinetic and Victoria University starting their three-day journey across three peaks- Mt Timbertop, Mt Stirling, and Mt Buller!!

Over the next few days, they’ll challenge themselves with tough climbs, take in breathtaking alpine views, and push their limits – determined in their pursuit of increasing educational opportunities for young people.

Congratulations to Kathrine Rix, recipient of the Helen Worladge Award 🏆✨

The Helen Worladge Award recognises an outstanding school nominator who displays commitment to nominating young people for Western Chances scholarships.

Kathrine has been consistently nominating students since 2015—supporting every facet of the scholarship program and helping school staff submit over 150 applications 👏

She actively encourages participation in Links opportunities and has been an invaluable sounding board for the Western Chances programs team.
