Making a space for language groups to come together, connect and support each other’s work to keep our languages thriving is ever more important.

So great to have SBS News join us for the day and speak to many of the presenters and volunteers who helped make the festival such a special event.

📚Angliss House's Bluestone Toy Library is hosting a special program for kids attending this year's Language in Community Festival, designed to engage children in fun, interactive, multilingual activities from 12:30pm.

🎨💡🎶This includes two storytimes and a divertido Spanish–English performing arts workshop with Argentinian creatives Ivi and Agustina, exploring language naturally and creatively through songs, movement, and imaginative play, fostering joy and confidence in both languages! 👩🏻‍🎨✨

🌊 🇳🇺✨ A Niue community collective based in Narrm, Niutupu Naama is committed to preserving and strengthening Niue language and culture. They deliver Niue language hubs, song and dance workshops and culturally grounded programs that nurture identity, belonging, and intergenerational connection.

Jason Tamiru is a proud Yorta Yorta man whose work focusses on spiritual and cultural alignment to the earth, sky and being. He sings in lingo, plays yidaki, claps message sticks, uses smoke and fire corrobboree to connect to the old country and old people.

Don't miss him at the Language in Community Festival, where he will perform a songline ceremony that connects us to the frequencies of the earth and sky. ☁️🌏✨

🏳️‍🌈✊ Language Justice Network is a not-for-profit organisation led by LGBTQIA+ forcibly displaced people, who work to to deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed, queer-affirming language services.

✨💬Meet them at their Language in Community Festival stall and learn how we can create multilingual, inclusive spaces where everyone can express themselves authentically and ensure equal access to information and services.

They'll also be presenting from 2pm!

Get ready for interactive fun at the Language in Community Festival and see Naarm Melbourne's diversity and culture in action!

✋🌺🪡✨There are hands-on activities for the whole family, including learning the tradition of Lei weaving with Grace Vanilau's weaving circle.

A Naarm-based interdisciplinary artist of Aotearoa Samoa descent, Grace has 30 years of experience in the Creative and Cultural Industry in Australia and Aotearoa (NZ) and has a passion for developing intercultural knowledge-share spaces for diverse creative communities.

🌀🌊✨ Meet our Language in Community Festival MC TAMM Kingi-Falakoa: a proud daughter of Niue — the Rock of Polynesia — and a fierce advocate for Pasifika languages, identity, and voice.

TAMM champions language as legacy — a living bridge between generations, culture, and community. Now based on Narrm Country, she honours First Nations peoples and continues the fight for all language survival, revival, and celebration across Australia and beyond.
