Wombat's Wish

Victoria's only specialised non-profit grief service supporting children after the death of a parent. This is 1 child in every classroom in Victoria.

1 in 20 Australian children have a parent die before the age of 18. An extremely difficult time for children and their family, and can potentially result in long-term emotional health problems. Our aim is to support bereaved children and young people through out their grief. Wombat’s provides weekend camps, group counseling, 1:1 counseling and family days facilitated by psychologists, qualified al

lied health workers and volunteers. Our programs provide support, lifelong friendships and evidence-based workshops in a fun and safe environment. All services are provided at no cost to families. Wombat’s Wish services the whole of Victoria, Australia.

Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Darren To and Cassandra of their team to Wombat’s Wish, where they took the time to learn more about our programs and meet our staff and volunteers. Their kindness, genuine interest, and heartfelt words left a lasting impression on us.

OUR TREE IS GROWING! At every Weekend Grief Program, we encourage families and staff to write each other a positive note on a leaf cut-out. Any that our staff or Wombat’s Wish get back we end up collating and adding to our Wombat’s Wish Office Tree.

It is a wonderful reminder each day to give our best and increase our support to families in need of grief support 🍃✨

Last Saturday, Wombat’s Wish was honoured to be part of the GPQG Quilt In fundraising event, where 42 talented attendees each created a beautiful 12-inch square in shades of purple and blue, inspired by the theme “With All My Heart.” 💜💙

These incredible squares will now be lovingly brought together to create a special quilt for Wombat’s Wish — and we are so excited to see the finished masterpiece!

A huge thank you to the quilting community for your kindness, creativity and generosity. Suzy, our Community Engagement Officer, also had the privilege of speaking to a group of roughly 280 quilters throughout the day and sharing more about the work we do supporting children and young people after the death of a parent.

We are incredibly grateful that donations raised from the day are going towards supporting Wombat’s Wish families across Victoria. Thank you for your warm welcome, generous words, and heartfelt support. The care stitched into every square is truly something special. 🪡✨
