I cannot tell you how much I’m loving this book. I don’t read heaps of fantasy so it’s absolutely sitting outside my comfort zone but there’s something very familiar about it, like the books I used to love reading growing up. The world building is so clear and clever and at the half way point I literally gasped out loud due to an epic plot reveal. It’s clever. Lyrical. Funny. And I absolutely adore the characters.

Hot tip. In the early stages when the new info is getting rapidly fired out and magic spell chat is at an all time high, don’t get too caught up in needing to understand it all (I literally had no idea what the heck was going on with the spellograph initially). It’s written in such a way that at some point the penny drops and everything becomes clear.

I can’t put it down. And I can’t wait to chat.

See you at book club - ASH✌🏼❤️‍🔥

Have you read the books or watched the TV adaptation yet?

Book-to-screen adaptations are absolutely taking over at the moment, and we’re loving every second of it. There’s something special (and sometimes anxiety inducing) about seeing characters you’ve spent hours with on the page come to life on screen.

The Off-Campus series has exploded lately, and I (Georgia) couldn’t be happier to see more people discovering one of my favourite ice hockey romances. From The Deal all the way through to The Legacy, this series delivers swoon-worthy romances, unforgettable friendships, plenty of laughs, and characters you’ll be thinking about long after you’ve finished reading.

Have I convinced you to read the books or watch the show yet?

Curios..

• What book-to-screen adaptation are you most excited about?
• Are you Team Books or Team Show?
• What’s your all time favourite book adaptation?

Tell us below! We love hearing what everyone’s watching, reading, and obsessing over.

Book Review - The things we never say by Elizabeth Strout

I love Strouts writing. It’s always, always beautifully tactile and surprising. It’s deeply human. And reading her work always makes me see things around me in a different way, like the world shifts in focus a little…

BUT this particular book, her 11th, I found to be a little tricky to read. It was too bleak and heavy for me right now and as a reader I don’t think I was in the right place to take it on. Or in.

It was magnificently written, and she’ll always be a favourite. For now though, I want to climb into a different world and leave Artie’s heart breaking, beautiful melancholy and surprising friendships behind. And who knows, maybe I’ll come back to it one day and it might be exactly what I need.

It feels like winter is here, so here’s some rainy day inspo on what we’re currently reading - completely different vibes from each of them:

Ash - Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
A literary mystery wrapped in nostalgia, secrets, and generational tension. Set against a rural backdrop, it explores memory, identity, and the unsettling ways the past keeps resurfacing when you least expect it. Quietly intense and impossible to stop thinking about.

Georgia - Because I Killed Him by Edith Birde
An art-deco styled murder mystery where the title already gives you the confession… but not the story. Sharp, atmospheric, and psychologically tense - more about why than who. Feels like stepping into a glamorous noir puzzle.

Connie - The Mercy of Gods by James S.A. Corey
Epic sci-fi from the authors of The Expanse. Humanity collides with a terrifying alien power, and survival suddenly depends on politics, strategy, and impossible choices. Huge scale, cinematic world-building, and that classic Corey mix of tension and humanity.

Our bookshelf right now is basically: rural literary suspense + stylish murder confession + existential space chaos 🤪

Which one would you pick for yourself?

Okay friends… who’s read the ACOTAR series?

We’re starting to get VERY excited for the next instalment coming in October and honestly… it might be time for a full reread.

Georgia has a hard (and maybe controversial) favourite: A Court of Silver Flames.

Are you loyal to A Court of Mist and Fury or backing another contender?

Book Review by Connie

The Shock of the Light was a little different from our usual book club choices, but it was well received!

This book doesn’t really keep pace with other beloved historical fiction (think All the Light We Cannot See) but it definitely holds its own. It constantly brings light to all of the power imbalances of the period, think gender, class and education as well as the repercussions of those imbalances to this day.

This was a story about a woman who becomes a spy because it’s the only way she’ll feel useful, then the story flips to a man who tries to find his lost sister across many decades.

The echo through history that i heard loudest, was not the love story, or the war story; it was the questioning of history. The question of ‘How can we trust what people have recorded through the years? How can we believe the past if it is told by someone with a hidden agenda?

Ooh it’s not often we have cross overs in our current reads - but here is some Sunday rainy day book inspo.

Ash - Hooked by Asako Yuzuki
It’s about obsession, female friendships and food. Only 100 pages in and it’s already wildly unsettling. Love it.

Connie - also reading Hooked
Initially I liked it… but now it’s starting to feel repetitive. Current review: annoying 😭 I’m about 3/4 through.

Also reading A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas — it’s easy, comforting, and honestly puts me to sleep :)

Georgia - A Court of Mist and Fury reread (audio) Absolutely loving being back in the ACOTAR world. Already emotionally preparing for the next books.

Also reading Crown Me Dead by Liv Zander. BookTok said tears and emotional damage, so obviously I had to investigate.
