We enjoy playing music from early through to modern times on recorders of all sizes. The Canberra Recorder and Early Music Society (CREMS) is a community group of recorder enthusiasts in the Canberra and surrounding regions who love this wonderful instrument. A long-running society, we recently celebrated our 50th anniversary (1974-2024). We enjoy playing music from early through to modern times on recorders of all sizes from the tiny sopranino to the large contrabass. Adult and youth players are most welcome to our community. We meet regularly at the Ainslie Arts Centre in Braddon, ACT. We offer playing opportunities that include a recorder orchestra, performance ensemble, in-house concerts and workshops led by professional tutors - as well as social playing sessions. Members are encouraged to play in consorts or small groups, and to form links with other players in the Canberra and surrounding region. Twice a year CREMS participates in a weekend workshop in Bundanoon, in southern NSW, in conjunction with the Sydney Society of Recorder Players. Annual Membership fees:
Single membership $40.00
Family membership $50.00
Student, Pensioner and Members living outside the ACT and its immediate surrounds $30.00

Bach and Paganini Sunday series at Wesley Music Centre - October through to May!

🎻 A FRIEND OF THE NCO: DANIEL RÖHN – BACH & PAGANINI, PART II

We’re delighted to share an upcoming performance by our good friend, German violinist Daniel Röhn, at Wesley Music Centre this Sunday!

A virtuoso violinist, Daniel brings exceptional artistry, technical brilliance and musical insight to these extraordinary works, from the profound beauty of Bach to the dazzling virtuosity of Paganini. He will perform all six of Bach’s solo Sonatas and Partitas, BWV 1001–1006, alongside all 24 of Paganini’s Caprices, Op. 1, in a series of six Sunday concerts.

Join Daniel for an afternoon of virtuosic violin playing and some of the greatest works ever written for solo violin.

Join us this November for 'Charms in Musick' our final concerts for 2026! We are delighted to be joined on stage by Anna Fraser, soprano; Sally Melhuish and Alana Blackburn, recorders; Jane Downer, oboe; Stephen Freeman and Julia Russoniello, violin; Brad Tham, viola; Tim Blomfield, cello; Jude Hill, double bass; and Monika Kornel, harpsichord.

Ancient Greek theatre inspired a gathering of musicians, poets and intellectuals in Florence in the late 16th century to create the dramatic new musical form of Opera, incorporating music, poetry, theatre and visual arts. It was both a culmination of composition for voice over centuries and a starting point for what evolved during the baroque period and beyond of exceptional compositions showcasing the magnificence of the voice.
