πŸ“£RALLY AT PARLIAMENT!!πŸ“£

βŒ› It's been 5 years since Labor released Victoria's Bus Plan, and we have seen nothing but piecemeal reform since then!

πŸ’Έ While the fuel crisis is increasing financial stress for everyone, families in the west are still missing out on the ESSENTIAL SERVICE that is fast, frequent and connected public transport, leaving them forced to depend on the car.

😡 Even though we are home to some of the fastest growing communities in the country, the government continues to neglect the west.

πŸ«‚ Public transport is a basic right, and everybody in our community deserves access to it.

🚌 If we had better buses, and an integrated transport network with electrified, frequent trains, it would mean more time for families to spend together.

πŸ’§We've shown the government that better buses is a drop in the ocean compared to what they'll spend on other major infrastructure projects, and the benefits to the community would be life changing.

πŸ‘€ With an election around the corner, Labor needs to step up now and transform our bus network because the west can't wait any more.

πŸ“£ We demand better buses. We demand better trains. We demand transport justice for the West!

A study by Ruinan Luo and Dr PΓ‘raic Carroll finds that hospital access by private car is relatively even across Melbourne, while public transport access is highly fragmented and inequitable, especially in fast-growing outer suburban areas, including the outer west. πŸ₯πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈ

Where you live and how you travel fundamentally influences your ability to reach health services. "For people without access to a private car, large parts of outer Melbourne function as healthcare blind spots," says Dr Carroll.

Better Buses is campaigning for a transformational bus network reform, bringing in a grid of fast, frequent and connected bus services to ensure everyone can access essential services like healthcare easily, safely and comfortably, without having to rely on driving. πŸšŒπŸ’š

Meet Amy-Jay and Lilliana from Aboriginal Wellness Foundation, a service based at the Wunggurrwil-Dhurrung centre (meaning β€œstrong heart” in Wadawurrung language) on Wadawurrung Country in Wyndham Vale. β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ’›

They've been fighting for years to get a bus to the centre, a key meeting place for mob in the west, and site of culturally safe support and connection. Koling Wada-ngal corporation who run the centre provide many crucial services to the community.🚌

Victorian Labor needs to act now to make sure these services are accessible to the community. Everybody deserves to move around our communities with ease. Taxi vouchers, excuses about β€œsmall streets”, and piecemeal reforms won’t cut it! πŸ‘€

We can’t keep fixing just one bus route at a time. If we want a better experience with buses, we need to transform the entire system into a connected grid of fast, frequent and electric buses. Find out more by following and sign the letter of support in our bio!

🚍 "Bus Bonanza" or the same old piecemeal approach?

πŸ‘€ While we are happy that buses are on the agenda and clearly the government CAN spend money on buses and public transport (an essential service!!), it appears Labor are addicted to piecemeal reform

πŸ—£οΈ Transformational network reform is the ONLY way to get the west moving now. WE WANT WESTBUS!!!
