There are more than 44,000 signatures as of this post. Help us get to 50,000!

The allied health sector is united behind the petition by Allied Health Professions Australia to expand the Commonwealth Prac Payment to include all allied health students, including audiology students.

Expanding the prac payment is a practical step to reduce financial hardship on students, strengthen workforce sustainability, and support students to complete their training.

Please sign the petition and help spread the word.

Audiology Australia supports efforts to strengthen the sustainability, integrity and consistency of the NDIS.

However, the proposed reforms risk unintended impacts for people with hearing loss if implemented without appropriate safeguards.

Audiology Australia urges careful consideration to ensure participants are not disadvantaged and will continue to advocate for reforms that support both scheme sustainability and equitable access to essential services.

Our recommendations include:
- incorporating hearing-specific expertise and communication measures in assessments
- recognising that hearing technology does not remove the need for ongoing supports
- ensuring evidence and treatment requirements are fair and accessible
- maintaining strong human oversight in decision-making and planning
- clarifying the boundaries between the NDIS and existing programs to avoid service gaps

Mental health trigger warning: this post mentions distressing topics, including mental health challenges and su***de.

In an Audiologist’s line of work, clients are seen over long periods of time, leading to the development of trusted relationships.

In some cases, this trust can lead to a client feeling comfortable disclosing distressing or even suicidal thoughts during an appointment. It is vital that in these situations, practitioners feel confident to respond safely and appropriately.

To support members in these situations, Audiology Australia has developed a new six-page member guidance resource that provides clear, practical steps on what to do next.

By equipping members with the right knowledge and tools, we can help ensure clients receive timely, appropriate care while also supporting the wellbeing of Audiologists themselves.
