This World Mental Health Day, we’re reminded of the power of listening, sharing and supporting one another 🧠
The 2026 global theme, “Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change”, highlights the importance of listening to people with lived experience and making sure their voices help shape the future of mental health.
For the Deaf and hard of hearing community, mental health support starts with accessible communication. Whether that means Auslan interpreters, captions or communication that meets each person’s needs, everyone deserves to access support in a way that works for them.
Here in Australia, the theme “Together We Thrive”, coordinated by Mental Health Australia, reminds us that we can create stronger, more inclusive communities when we listen, connect and support one another.
Through the creation of Auslan Emergency Interpreting (AEI), Expression Australia have bridged a gap in access to emergency services. With qualified Auslan interpreters, Triple Zero is accessible to the Deaf and hard of hearing community 24/7. Emergencies are not just physical or visible, some are an internal battle. If you require emergency assistance, the AEI App is available to download via the App Store or Google Play 📲
This World Mental Health Day, let’s work towards a future where every person feels included, every experience is valued and everyone can access the support they deserve.
