For World Oceans Day and World Environment Day, we celebrated by spending the day on Mandingalbay Country!

Cairns Regional Council, Mandingalbay Yidinji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC and Mandingalbay Authentic Indigenous Tours organised a fantastic day of activities, sharing the important work they are undertaking through the Clean Creeks and Conservation Project and highlighting their deep cultural connections to Country.
Thank you for inviting our Projects Officer, Shannon, to deliver mangrove identification training and speak about tropical saltmarshes and the methods used to survey them.

It was wonderful to see people and organisations from across Cairns and the surrounding region come together to celebrate, learn about, and appreciate our coastal wetlands and the Reef.

Land & Sea Rangers from Dabu Jajikal Aboriginal Corporation and students from Bloomfield River State School have launched their Junior Rangers program, with fun cultural activities and most recently a hands on tree planting program at Weary Bay, Bloomfield.

The mouth of the Bloomfield River has undertaken great change after Cyclone Jasper and recent floods, and the tree planting aims to educate the students with a โ€˜hands-onโ€™ program about the importance of revegetation and 'caring for country.โ€™ Led by Teacher Sam Simmonds and Lead Ranger Lester Shipton, the group worked with Jajikal elders to plant some 30 trees.

The Jajikal Junior Rangers program is funded by the The National Indigenous Australians Agency(NIAA), and the Dabu Jajikal Land & Sea Rangers program is funded through the Queensland Governmentโ€™s Queensland Land & Sea Rangers program.
