According to the findings of Dr. Yolanda Waters tourists visiting the GBR have a very high trust of reef workers and boat staff! This means that if you are working in marine tourism you actually have the power to influence people to take action for the conservation of the reef! We might think that our little daily conversations might no make much difference but the ripple effect can be enormous!

During July, the Women's Environmental Leadership Australia (WELA) in association with the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, hosted a GBR Leadership Intensive where a diverse group of women in conservation working on the Great Barrier Reef got together to share and learn.

WELA is a community of women and gender diverse people transforming Australia’s response to the environmental and climate crises.

Founded on the premise that we will not get out of this crises by relying on the same leadership that got us into it, WELA strives to develop leadership that is collaborative, empathetic, networked and responsive to communities.

Shout out to for supporting the campaign! Callie is a passionate marine biologist working on a reef boat that departs from Port Douglas.

Social studies like the one conducted my have shown that the public holds much confidence in what reef workers have to say about the state of the reef and the actions that can be taken to protect it!

All you reef workers out there have more power of influence than you think!

Community grassroots organisations like fight climate change on the field and getting their hands dirty! They organise tree planting events where community can get together and share in the beautiful process of planting baby trees!! Everyone is welcome!!!

Kathy and Dave are part of the group of community members that manage the Holloways Community Garden with love and dedication! They support the conservation and climate action movement and know that a key factor for sustainability is to grow and consume food locally! This very special piece of land in Holloways Beach gives neighbors the chance to connect with their community and to learn and practice sustainable ways of growing food and composting!
