The Last Straw on the Great Barrier Reef

The Last Straw on the Great Barrier Reef The Official Campaign that contributed to eradicating single-use plastic straws in Queensland. Equating to over 5,500km of straws laid end to end!

The Last Straw on the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) is the Official Campaign © eradicating single-use plastic straws in venues operating on and around the GBR. Launching in 2016, by Marine Biologist Nicole Nash, the movement has seen 377 venues register, resulting in over 4.5 million plastic straws from NOT being used per year by these venues. Our data collected to date on registered venues and straw

usage was provided to the QLD parliament and helped contribute to the Plastic Ban that was enacted on 1 Sept 2021! As a result we are no longer taking registrations of new venues as it is now LAW to be single use plastic straw free

Nicole is now winding down the movement, but still available for guest speaking at events/educational talks and inspiring new leaders to drive change in their community.
