The first step of putting in the new heritage trail sign commemorating the Federation Trees went in this morning. The sign will go in near the echidna sculpture just down from the information signs and arboretum.

We have two speakers this month. Renowned historian Judith Dunn speaking on stories of women who did not reach the history books but achieved much in the early days of the Colony. Also Evelyn O'Donoghue who will speak on the fight by the North Parramatta Residents Action Group to retain Parramatta's heritage. Next Monday (2/8) Soldiers Memorial Hall Bundanoon 10am for 10:30am.

Saturday's joint event with Royal Australian Historical Society in Kiama was a blockbuster! Workshop tickets sold out 10 days earlier, but we let in a few of our historical society friends bringing numbers to 55.

Thanks to Carol Liston and Christine Yeats for making the trip from Sydney, and to Auntie Dr Joyce Donovan and Quintin for a warm and moving welcome to the day. Mayor Cameron McDonald opened the afternoon talk - standing room only with over 90 people.

We are looking forward to the talk by Trevor Edmonds on Monday morning at 10 for 10:30am on the 1914 Exeter Train Disaster. The talk in the Soldiers Memorial Hall is open to all. Non-members are asked to give a gold coin donation.

Our July monthly meeting, next Monday at 10am in the Soldiers Memorial Hall Bundanoon will include a presentation by Trevor Edmonds on the 1914 Exeter Train Disaster.

At 11:49 pm on Friday 13 March 1914 the Temora Mail overran the Exeter Home Signal (which was showing red) and collided with a goods train resulting in 15 deaths. At the time, this was the worst accident on the NSW Railways. This is not disputed. What was disputed is why this happened.

The presentation will focus on the two versions of events leading to the accident, one given by the Exeter night officer, Alexander Callen, and the other by the Temora Mail driver, Peter Irwin. Which version was correct? Did the authorities believe the wrong man?
