📍 GHS2028 is heading to Brisbane!

We are delighted to announce that the Global Health Security Conference 2028 will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) in Brisbane, Australia, from 20 to 23 June 2028.

Selecting a host city involved many considerations, including the delegate experience, financial suitability, delegate affordability, proximity to hotels, transport and airport access.

We are so excited to be bringing GHS2028 home to Australia, and to welcoming the global health security community to Brisbane.

💉 Today is World Polio Day.

Since 1988, global efforts have reduced polio cases by more than 99%, one of the greatest public health achievements in history. Yet wild poliovirus remains in parts of the world, and vaccine-derived outbreaks continue to emerge where immunisation coverage is low.

Ending polio for good requires strong surveillance, high vaccination coverage, rapid outbreak response and sustained collaboration across borders and sectors.

Today, we recognise the vaccinators, surveillance teams, researchers and communities working to finish the job and protect every child.

🧼 This week is International Infection Prevention Week.

Infection prevention and control protects patients, health workers and communities every day, from hand hygiene and safe care practices to isolation procedures and outbreak readiness.

Strong IPC programmes are a cornerstone of health security. They help stop infections from spreading in healthcare settings and make sure health systems can keep functioning when outbreaks emerge.

This week, we recognise the infection prevention and control professionals, health workers and researchers working to keep care safe for everyone.

“The breadth and quality of the sessions, the opportunities for collaboration, and the emphasis on evidence-based solutions made GHS2026 an invaluable learning experience.”

One delegate, who presented a poster on strengthening healthcare system resilience through cashless payment systems in hospital settings, also shared how much they valued engaging with participants from diverse disciplines and regions, and the new perspectives they’re taking back to their work.

They also encouraged us to keep expanding support for presenters and attendees from resource-constrained settings, so even more voices can take part. It’s a priority we share, and one we’ll carry into GHS2028.

Following the success of GHS2026 in Kuala Lumpur, preparations are well underway for the fifth Global Health Security Conference - GHS2028.

Building on the momentum of previous conferences, GHS2028 will once again bring together the global health security community to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships and advance collective action against evolving health security threats.

📢 The GHS2026 Final Conference Report is Now Available!

In June, the global health security community came together in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the fourth Global Health Security Conference (GHS2026), advancing dialogue, collaboration and collective action on some of the world's most pressing health security challenges.

🌏 GHS2026 at a glance:
✅ 1,240 delegates from 88 countries and territories
✅ 124 panel discussions and 372 oral presentations
✅ 11 plenary sessions and 26 skills training workshops
✅ 158 poster presentations
✅ 79 fully funded travel bursaries for delegates from low- and middle-income countries

Beyond the numbers, GHS2026 strengthened partnerships, sparked new collaborations and demonstrated the power of bringing together diverse perspectives to advance global health security.

🧠 Today is World Meningitis Day.

Meningitis can develop and become life-threatening within hours, disproportionately affecting infants, children and communities with limited access to vaccines and timely treatment.

Preventing meningitis requires strong surveillance, accessible vaccination, rapid diagnosis and coordinated public health systems ready to respond before an outbreak takes hold.

Today, we recognise the researchers, health professionals and communities working towards a world free from meningitis.
