May is Family Violence Prevention Month and today, on the 6th May, we pause to honour the lives lost because of family violence.
Annie North's vision is that all women and children live free from domestic and family violence. We honour and pay tribute to the courage of all victim survivors.
Tonight, as part of National Family Violence Remembrance Day, Annie North will join in the Community Candlelight Vigil in Bendigo, pausing to remember those we have lost to family violence, and their loved ones.
The community vigil will give us all a moment to reflect and to offer solidarity and hope to families who have or are experiencing family violence in our community.
Ribbons will be available for community members to write their own messages of remembrance, solidarity and hope - and will be displayed along the gates of the Conservatory Gardens as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The vigil is organised by The Loddon Consortium for Gender Equality & Violence Prevention, a partnership that we play an active role in, made up of five specialist gender-based violence organisations across the Loddon area:
- Annie North Inc Women’s Refuge
- Centre Against Sexual Assault Central Victoria (CASACV)
- Centre for Non Violence (CNV)
- Omnia Community Health
- Women's Health Loddon Mallee
If you, or someone you know is experiencing family violence, please reach out for support.
