The Office of the Public Advocate are currently seeking new community visitor volunteers in: Wimmera, Grampians, Shepparton, Mildura, Bendigo, Ballarat, Wodonga and Wangaratta regions.

Community Visitors visit Victorian accommodation facilities for people with disability or mental illness in their local area. They monitor and report on the adequacy of the services provided and, where possible, communicate with residents or patients to ensure they are being treated with dignity and respect.

Community Visitors are Victorian Governor in Council appointees, are appointed for a three-year term, and have significant powers of entry and inspection.

They visit unannounced and write a brief report at the conclusion of the visit detailing who they have spoken to, what documents they have looked at, any issues of concern, as well as good practice they have observed.

Last night we attended the Bendigo Business Excellence Awards as a finalist in the not-for-profit category. Bendigo Community Health Services was the winner in our category, and we would like to congratulate them and all the other winners and fellow finalists. It was a wonderful night with 700 attendees, and we wish to thank the event organisers, caterers, sponsors & Master of Ceremonies.

We may not have won the award, but we’re certainly not slowing down. We'll continue to support volunteering in our region. We would like to thank our board, volunteers and supporters in the volunteering sector.
