We have three levels of bands available catering for different entry points in experience and ability. Band History:

The Ballarat Memorial Concert Band was started in about 1920 by Private H.J. Norman McWilliam. At its inception the band was restricted to Returned Soldiers and by 1924 had developed into a highly skilled and successful brass band. In later years membership was extended to encompass servicemen and women from both wars. At this time the name of the band was changed to the Ballarat Memorial Soldiers Sailors and Airman Band (BSS&A). The BSS&A Band was Ballarat’s premier marching and performing brass band and was often in demand by festival organizers in and around Ballarat. In 1987, due to declining numbers, membership was opened all musicians and the band was developed into a concert band. As a reflection of this development, the name of the band was changed to the Ballarat Memorial Concert Band (BMCB). The Ballarat Memorial Concert Band, and its associated Developmental Band, is a non-profit community organization. The band plays most types of music including marches, classical, jazz and popular styles and regularly participates in concerts, community festivals and events. In keeping with its marching band heritage, the BMCB often participates in local marches and parades.

What a success! 🎶

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Annual 2026 Showcase!

What a fantastic opportunity to celebrate concert banding with performances from both the Ballarat Memorial Concert Band and the Barkly Street Concert Band. We ended the afternoon with a special highlight by bringing both bands together for a combined performance of music from The Greatest Showman!

A HUGE thank you to our Musical Directors, Amanda Holley and Kerry Trounson for their leadership, dedication and musical direction. As well as our associate conductor Nicole Melton in leading a number with Barkly Street Concert Band and the joint finale.

We would also like to extend this thanks to all our wonderful band members for their commitment and to our committee for the many hours of planning and behind the scenes work that helped make this event possible. Your contributions are truly valued!

Finally, thank you to our audience for being part of this occasion and for supporting community music.

What a wonderful evening we shared at our AGM on Wednesday.

A huge thank you to all in attendance and those that helped organise the evening. It was a great opportunity to come together and celebrate our achievements as an association.

A special congratulations to all award recipients who were recognised on the night. Your dedication, commitment and contribution do not go unnoticed.

We’d also like to welcome any new incoming committee members, our association runs only because of those that give their time and support.

Not too long till our next AGM

Ballarat Memorial Concert Band is inviting you to our 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The AGM will be held at the Red Lion on the 26th of August at 6.30pm. Please note there will be no rehearsal that night.

As per our Incorporation’s constitution there are key roles that will become vacant. Those vacancies are:
