ARTIST SPOTLIGHT - LYNDELL ALLEN, CONDUCTOR
For this program, alto, Lyndell Allen has stepped out for singing role to use her significant experience in choral conducting leadership to bring FEMME to fruition.
Lyndell Allen’s lifelong commitment to choral music, both as a singer and conductor, began at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Geelong where she was a chorister from the age of 6. Her passion was encouraged by a number of choral directors throughout her education, and she directed her first choir as a high school student. Lyndell graduated with a degree in Music from the University of Melbourne in 1996 and has studied singing with Merlyn Quaife, Peter Mander and Stephen Grant. Lyndell was also a member of the Trinity College Chapel Choir and is founding member of VOX Ballarat where she currently sings 1st Alto.
Lyndell received a Churchill Fellowship in 2003 to study Choral Conducting techniques and methodologies in England, the USA and Hungary. During her travels she studied at leading institutions with leading choral exponents including Stephen Cleobury, Malcolm Archer, John Scott, James Lancelot, Richard Shephard and Simon Lole (England), James Jordan (USA) and Katalin Kiss and Peter Erdei (Hungary). Lyndell completed the Gondwana National Choral School Conductors Course in 2018, has been fortunate to work with leading choral conductors from around Australia (Graeme Morton, Carl Crossins, Paul Holley, Lyn Williams, Graham Abott, Richard Gill, Faye Dumont, Stephen Leek and around the world (Mary Goetze and Rodney Eichenberger (USA), Stephan Parkman (Sweden). Lyndell has developed choral programs in the Ballarat Community at the Anglican Cathedral, Ballarat Grammar School Ballarat CHoral Society and most recently Ballarat Voices. Her work has included conducting large scale performances of Requiem masses by Faure, Mozart, Rutter, Chilcott, Durufle and Bieber, Orchestral Masses by Schubert and Haydn, Vivaldi’s”Gloria”, Pergoles’s “Stabat Mater”, and Rutter’s “Gloria” for 100 voice choir, brass and organ which attended by the Governor General of Australia. She also conducts the Carol service of Nine Lessons at the Cathedral each year.
Lyndell is very grateful to her darling husband David and their three children Bas (commissioned composer for FEMME), Leopold and Otis for supporting her in her crazy adventures in music and life.
