East Gippsland Family History Group are in a unique position of being able to offer for sale a small number of mint condition Providence Ponds : A Novel of Early Australia by Stanley Porteus. One of the most valuable fiction books that can be found on an East Gippsland researchers book shelf, this book covers the story of the Scott family coming from Monaro to Providence Ponds. The author was writing the history of the family when his manuscript and notes were destroyed in a house fire and he lost all his references. As a consequence, he rewrote it from memory as fiction having lost the original material.

Originally published in the 1950s first editions are hard to source. It was reprinted for the Scott family reunion in the 1970s and we have a small number in mint condition for sale.

Specs: Hardback, 15 (ish) (190m x 135m), 272 pp, maps.
