18 Years and Still Going Strong

Australian Army Cadets got their start in Bairnsdale as a detachment of 308 ACU Headquartered at Sale and commenced at the start of 2001 after public meetings and staff selection had taken place in the latter half of 2000. The community support displayed for the establishment of an Army Cadet Unit in Bairnsdale during this period was encouraging enough to launch the Unit as a detachment of 308 ACU Sale in February 2001. The Units status changed in May 2008 when it was administratively established as a Unit with the appointment of its own Officer Commanding, Captain (AAC) Ken Bodinnar, and given the designation of 308 ACU Bairnsdale. The Unit was then able to run it's own training programs and activities. On the 1st July 2013, the Unit was finally established as a Unit in it's own right and was given the Unit designation of 313 Army Cadet Unit.
